Presented by the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Parks District\, the concerts will mark the band’s 39th season. \nSo\, let’s meet up! We pack an easy picnic dinner\, some low-back camp chairs\, and make a date of it. We will be sitting between the parking lot and the bubble machine. Please join us! I can’t make it August 1 due to the Summer Dance\, but any of you who aren’t attending the dance\, please enjoy the concert. 🙂 \nYou can bring a picnic dinner\, too\, or just plan on dessert. Last year they had Mr. Softee each week! I expect they may do that again. \nIt’s a very family and (well-behaved) dog friendly environment\, plus the music is so fun. Children are invited up to conduct a march. Everyone is encouraged to vote for their favorite piece which will be played at the next concert. \nI played flute and piccolo with this group for several years\, along with my then-teenage children who played saxophone and clarinet. It was a lovely time. \nIt’s a great and fun way to foster an appreciation for music while participating in a quintessential summertime small-town America fun.

DESCRIPTION:We have beautiful summers here in Ventura County\, from coastal fog to warm inland temps – all just a relatively short drive. \nWe also have some great ice cream shops! Let’s take advantage of the later sunsets and have some meet ups! \nThese are for all ages. \nThese are all Wednesday evenings\, 7pm\, so you have time for dinner and driving. Each night you attend\, you will have a chance to have your family enter a drawing to take place after the last meeting for a chance to win a gift certificate to whichever of the four ice cream shops you choose. Each visit increases your odds. 🙂 \nAugust 7 – Coastal Cone in the Ventura Harbor: The harbor can be cool in the evenings\, so please bring layers. We should try for a group photo at the big harbor sign overlooking the water. \nAugust 14 – Little Calf Creamery in Thousand Oaks: This is a lovely cafe as well. You might even want to go early to have dinner there\, too. There isn’t really any place to play\, but there is a generous outside patio\, so depending on the weather\, let’s grab some outside seating. I expect it will be cool enough by that time of the evening. \nAugust 21 – Tifa Gelato and Chocolate in Camarillo: Yes\, this is a luxury ice cream\, to be sure. If you have not yet tried it\, let me assure you it is delicious! There is no place to play\, but there is a nice breezeway alongside the shop the kids enjoyed last year. \nAugust 28 – Ojai Ice Cream in Ojai: Libby Park is across the street. Last year we had a great time at the park after grabbing our cones.

DESCRIPTION:We have beautiful summers here in Ventura County\, from coastal fog to warm inland temps – all just a relatively short drive. \nWe also have some great ice cream shops! Let’s take advantage of the later sunsets and have some meet ups! \nThese are for all ages. \nThese are all Wednesday evenings\, 7pm\, so you have time for dinner and driving. Each night you attend\, you will have a chance to have your family enter a drawing to take place after the last meeting for a chance to win a gift certificate to whichever of the four ice cream shops you choose. Each visit increases your odds. 🙂 \nAugust 7 – Coastal Cone in the Ventura Harbor: The harbor can be cool in the evenings\, so please bring layers. We should try for a group photo at the big harbor sign overlooking the water. \nAugust 14 – Little Calf Creamery in Thousand Oaks: This is a lovely cafe as well. You might even want to go early to have dinner there\, too. There isn’t really any place to play\, but there is a generous outside patio\, so depending on the weather\, let’s grab some outside seating. I expect it will be cool enough by that time of the evening. \nAugust 21 – Tifa Gelato and Chocolate in Camarillo: Yes\, this is a luxury ice cream\, to be sure. If you have not yet tried it\, let me assure you it is delicious! There is no place to play\, but there is a nice breezeway alongside the shop the kids enjoyed last year. \nAugust 28 – Ojai Ice Cream in Ojai: Libby Park is across the street. Last year we had a great time at the park after grabbing our cones.

DESCRIPTION:What: Private ballroom dance classes for ACHEV at House of Dance – Lesson for 45 minutes\, dance practice to music for 15 minutes.  This is a series of classes that will go through December 4th with a break for Thanksgiving week. \nFirst Class is Sept 4th\, continuing through Dec 4th with the exception of Thanksgiving week.   \nWe will be learning East Coast Swing this semester.  We will learn a different dance after the New Year. \nWho: ACHEV members\, grads & guests 11 and up.  ACHEV Members can invite guests: guests do not need to be ACHEV members\, but need to be homeschooled.  Please clear invited homeschooling friends through Bonnie at bonnieadair@verizon.net.   Current ACHEV members are given priority on the sign up sheet\, ACHEV grads next\, and then guests.  I will not add any guests to the class before 8/15.  ACHEV members\, sign up asap because I will start adding grads and guests after 8/15\, or as I see space available\, or a need to fill spots.  We must have equal number boys and girls in order for the class to work.  We can keep a waitlist in case space opens up prior to the first class in a series.  Minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls in order to hold these classes.  Partners rotate throughout the class. \nWhere: House of Dance \, 3007 Bunsen Ave\, Ventura 93003   https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/ \nWhen: Wednesdays 4pm – 5:00 pm \nCost: $10 per student per class payable in advance on the first of each month.  $40 payable on Sept 4th\, $50 payable on October 2nd\, $40 payable November 6th.   Pay in advance via Venmo or Zelle (info at https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/)  Or pay with cash or check when you arrive on the first Wednesday of the month.  If you pay via Venmo or Zelle\, please include a note “ACHEV Homeschool class” \nWhat to Bring & Wear: Bring your own water bottles.  There is no drinking fountain.  There is no special dress code\, other than ACHEV’s general dress code for all events which is\, “modest and appropriate for the occasion”.   Some girls choose to wear dresses and skirts\, but you can wear pants or shorts.  Boys can wear pants or shorts.  Be comfortable.  If you do not have felt bottomed dance shoes (felt bottomed dance shoes are ideal)\, try to choose a shoe that is not grippy and rubbery on bottom.  Leather soled dress shoes or Vans-type skateboard shoes are okay.  Absolutely NO flip flops.  No sandals\, no Uggs.  Boots are not good for ballroom or swing dancing.  You want to be able to slide/glide on the floor\, turn easily on your toes and point your toes. \nTo purchase good quality dance shoes (recommended but not required)\, go here \nPayment Policy: \nPayment for the month of classes is due in full at the beginning of the first class of the month.  There will be no refunds or credits for missed classes.  We understand that sometimes illness or unexpected circumstances come up on short notice\, but in order to keep these classes affordable\, House of Dance cannot issue refunds or credits.    If you know before a series starts that you will need to miss a class\, please check with the organizer to make sure that will be okay before signing up (it depends on a variety of factors)\, and the full amount of the series will still be due at the first class. \nThese classes are not drop-in classes.  Signing up in advance is required.  After the series has begun\, we cannot add new students.  If you sign up for a series\, your classmates are counting on you to be there for all the classes other than illness or other unavoidable/unforeseen circumstances\, because these classes are most enjoyable when everyone has a partner.  Additionally\, learning dance is sequential and if you miss too many classes\, it can be difficult to catch up and it can hold up others in the class. \nQuestions?  Bonnieadair@verizon.net or 805-504-6457 call or text. \nWe must have an even number of boys and girls.  Any girls in excess of boys\, or vice versa\, are considered to be on the waitlist.  We must have a minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls to proceed with the class. \nSign Up Here for East Coast Swing Fall 2024\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Beach Day in Lieu of Volleyball and Elementary PE at the park
DESCRIPTION:Since we meet for volleyball and elementary PE at the hottest part of the day\, and we are looking at a high temp of 98 degrees in Camarillo this Friday\, I am cancelling volleyball at the park and elementary PE at the park this week and I hope that you will all come out for some volleyball practice in the water at the beach and elementary PE at the beach.  1pm-4pm\nWith it being so hot\, I think there might be a lot of people at the beach even though school is back in session\, so that’s why I want to get there at 1 (hopefully before most school is out for the day) and hopefully find a good spot for us to play. \nWhat: ACHEV Beach Day\, tots to teens!  The little kids like to play in the sand\, boogie board close to shore\, the older kids boogie board\, body surf\, dig holes and play sports on the sand.  We have a great time\, so please join us for fun\, fellowship\, and checking P.E. off your list =) \nWhere: Beach North of Emma Wood and just south of Solimar and South of Mondos.  It’s called Summer’s Beach – park for free along the highway.  Take the California State Beaches exit off the 101 fwy.   https://maps.apple.com/place?ll=34.306528\,-119.351567&q=Marked%20Location&_ext=EiQpJzQpTzwnQUAxBaWsEYDWXcA5JzQpTzwnQUBBBaWsEYDWXcA%3D&t=h  That is the marked location where we will meet.  There is a handicap ramp to take you down to the beach and a porta potty street side.  There should be a good deal of parking. \nHow to Find Us: Come Down the handicap ramp\, and if you are facing the water\, turn left and we will be close by on the left hand side (that’s the plan anyways).  You can look for my red SUV along the highway.  It’s a Subaru Ascent with a roof rack. \nDirections: The address at the marked location is 2866-2868 Pacific Coast Highway.  Take the California State Beaches exit off the 101 fwy. \nTide Forecast: https://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Solimar-Reef/tides/latest \nLet me know if you plan to come so we can look out for you.  Can’t wait to see you there!
