SUMMARY:PE Co-Op
DESCRIPTION:ACHEV activities\, events\, and field trips are for ACHEV students unless otherwise noted. \nWhat: \nElementary PE Co-Op (@ ages 5-12): \nWe are gathering together to teach our children to work as a team\, develop strength\, perseverance\, good sportsmanship and friendships through physical activity. We start with a warm up exercise routine that will help the children build strength and balance.  It is really fun to see how much they improve over the school year.  After the warm up\, we do structured activities for about 45 minutes.  Afterwards we have optional free play. \nSome examples of things we have done in the past: Relay races\, obstacle courses\, “Toxic River”\, “Barbarians”\, “Steal the Bacon”\, crab soccer\, jump rope\, and four-square.  We have also spent time playing games and doing drills to work on specific skills such as improving reaction time\, learning how to pass a volleyball\, hand-eye coordination\, etc. \nThis is not a drop off class.  Parents take turns leading activities and help supervise and assist their children as needed. \nLittles PE Co-Op (@ ages 2-5): \nNicole Reyes is leading this group.  Age appropriate PE games for the little ones will be taking place at the same time as the Elementary PE Co-Op.  This is not a drop off class.  Parents will be supervising and assisting their children as needed. You are welcome to bring your infants with you. \nWho: ACHEV members 2- 12 years.   Infants are welcome to tag along.  We  have room for more families to join us in both groups\, so please consider joining us. \nThis co-op aims to be a commitment for the school year as opposed to a “drop-in” program.  If you’re curious\, but would like to try it out first\, please feel free to come for a couple sessions and see if it’s something you can commit to for the rest of the year.  We also invite students to join the group at any time in the year.   \nThe dates for the whole school year are printed below and all dates are also on the ACHEV calendar\, all are on Friday mornings.  We will meet at Pitts Ranch Park  (Camarillo).   Please email or text Bonnie Adair 805-504-6457 bonnieadair@verizon.net if you are interested in joining us.   We need to know how many children will be present in order to help with activity planning.  Feel free to reach out with any questions. \nSept 18 \nOctober 2\, 16\, 30 \nNovember 13 \nDecember 4\, 11 \nJanuary 15\, 29 \nFebruary 12\, 26 \nMarch 12\, 19 \nApril 2\, 16 \nMay 7\, 21

SUMMARY:ACHEV Homeschool Career Symposium
DESCRIPTION:*ACHEV activities\, events\, and field trips are for ACHEV students unless otherwise noted. * \nTHE MANY PATHS TO SUCCESS\nACHEV HOMESCHOOL CAREER SYMPOSIUM\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND? \nThe Career Symposium is designed specifically for: \n\nACHEV high school students & their parents\nACHEV grads\n(Mature 8th graders OK)\n\nWe encourage students and parents to attend together so families can explore career possibilities\, ask questions\, and discuss potential pathways for life after high school. (This is a special event for high school students\, we ask that you please leave younger siblings at home) \n\nSuccess doesn’t look the same for everyone. What comes after high school? For some students\, the answer may be a four-year college degree. For others\, it may be a trade school\, certification program\, apprenticeship\, entrepreneurship\, or entering the workforce directly. \nThe purpose of the ACHEV Career Symposium is to introduce our students to real professionals from a variety of career fields and educational backgrounds\, helping them discover possibilities and understand that there are many pathways to a successful and fulfilling career. Our goal is not to tell students what they should become. Our goal is to help them discover what is possible. \n\nWe are seeking individuals within the ACHEV community who are willing to share their career journey with our students. We are specifically looking for professionals in three categories: \n\nCOLLEGE EDUCATION (Careers that typically require a college degree.)\nTRADE SCHOOL / CERTIFICATION (Careers that typically require trade school\, technical training\, certification\, apprenticeship\, or specialized education.)\nHIGH SCHOOL / ENTREPRENEURSHIP (Careers that can be entered with a high school education\, on-the-job training\, or through entrepreneurship.)\n\n  \nWe want students to see that every pathway has value-and that success can be found in many different forms. Each speaker will have approximately five minutes to introduce students to their career. Speakers will be given a standardized set of questions to help guide their presentation. \n\nQ&A AND CAREER CONNECTION \nAfter the 12 speakers have presented\, students\, parents\, and presenters will gather for approximately 45 minutes of light refreshments and informal conversation. \nThis will give students the opportunity to: \n\nAsk follow-up questions\nMeet presenters personally\nLearn more about careers that caught their interest\nMake connections with professionals\nDiscuss education and training pathways\n\nThis informal portion is an important part of the symposium because a five-minute presentation may spark an interest that leads to a much deeper conversation. \n\nWHY THIS MATTERS \nCollege is a wonderful pathway for some students-but it isn’t the only pathway to success. Trades are valuable. Certifications are valuable. Entrepreneurship is valuable. College is valuable. Careers are worthwhile in their various forms. We want our students to leave understanding that their future does not have to fit into one predetermined mold. By meeting real people who have taken different paths\, students can begin to see possibilities they may never have considered. \nSUCCESS HAS MANY PATHS. \n\nACHEV FIRST! \nMy goal is to utilize the incredible experience and diversity already present within the ACHEV community before reaching outside of our group. If you have a career that fits one of the three categories above-or if you know someone within ACHEV who would be a great speaker-we would love to hear from you! \nIf you are unable to participate as a speaker but would like to help make the event a success\, please sign up to bring light refreshments on the sign-up sheet. This is a great way to contribute! \nSIGN UP HERE!

Then there will be free dancing from 7:30-10:00. There will be a variety of Christmas tunes and we will do some group dances as well as lots of partner dancing with a mixture of swing\, Latin\, and smooth ballroom dances. \nWe need volunteers to help with the dance. Look for the volunteer tab on the sign up sheet.  Click here to help. \nWhen: Friday\, December 11th from  7PM-10PM. \nWhere: House of Dance: 3007 Bunsen Ave Ste E\, Ventura\, CA https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/ \nCost: $15 per student and includes a 30 minute professional dance lesson at the beginning from 7:00-7:30\, taught by Patricia Monico. \nPayment: Payment in advance is very helpful \, but not required. You can pay with cash\, check\, or Zelle when you arrive. \nAdvance Payment Options: \n\nDeliver Cash or check (made payable to “ACHEV”) to Cari Fox in person text 805-300-7762 to make arrangements.\nZelle: ACHEV can now accept Zelle payments to achevmail@gmail.com. If you use Zelle please include a note that payment is for the Christmas Dance and list the names of the students/grads/guests you are paying for.\n\nPayments for this dance are going through ACHEV. Please don’t send any personal payments to Cari or House of Dance. I will be collecting all payments through ACHEV and delivering payment to House of Dance in one lump-sum. \nRefunds: If you pay in advance\, I will gladly give you a refund if you notify me by Noon on the day of the dance if you are unable to come. Please don’t No-Show. \nWho: ACHEV members 6th Grade and up\, ACHEV parents\, siblings of ACHEV members (6th+)\, and ACHEV graduates are also welcome. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join in the dancing as well as the lesson. **NO younger siblings at this dance. \nGuests: ACHEV members may invite guests. Clear your guests by texting Cari at (805)300-7762 with names\, ages and their chaperone. Guests outside of ACHEV will not be approved until November 11th due to limited space at this venue. Please do not share the sign up sheet links outside of ACHEV. Make sure to confirm that guests have read the dress code and etiquette\, and please make sure they know that younger siblings are not permitted to be present. The information is available below to copy and paste (with the exception of sign up sheet links) and share with them and is also included on the sign-up sheet. \nChaperones: Each student under 18 must have a parent chaperone. You may have another parent chaperone in your place. Chaperones are responsible for the behavior and safety of their children for the duration of the event. Please make sure to include chaperone names for your student(s) on the sign up sheet. All Chaperones need to be signed up on the sign up sheet because the building has a maximum capacity that we need to be careful to observe. \nWhat to Bring: \nYour own water bottles (parents\, too). Please help us reduce cost and waste. We will have water and cups available for refilling your water bottles\, or in case someone forgets theirs.\nFinger Food Snack to share with the group.\nGirls\, if you are going to wear heels\, please bring a pair of more comfortable shoes in case your feet can’t stand it anymore. This might be a good idea for boys\, too\, if they are wearing a new pair of dress shoes. No going barefoot. It will hurt if you get stepped on. \n\nPlease carefully read the dress code and etiquette guidelines below and share with your guests: \nDress Code: \nWe do not want to have to send anyone home\, so please\, follow the guidelines. If you are having trouble\, reach out and ask questions or ask to borrow something. \nBoys: \nCollared shirts (button-up or polo)\, long sleeve or short sleeved.\nSlacks\, NO jeans. This is a semi-formal dance. Do not wear pants that look like jeans. Slacks have slits for back pockets\, not sewn on pockets as jeans do. Slacks are pressed with a crease down the front center.\nClosed toe shoes: Absolutely no flip flops\, socks or bare feet. It is hard to dance when your shoes are super sticky/grippy on the dance floor. If you don’t have dress/dance shoes\, Converse/Keds type shoes work OK. \nGirls: \nSkirts or dresses knee length or longer. (This means touching the top of the knee\, regardless of leggings.) If there is a lace overlay\, the skirt underneath (solid fabric) needs to touch the knee.\nSlits in skirts cannot rise above the top of the knee regardless of leggings underneath. If you skirt/dress just touches the top of the knee and it has a slit in it\, it is too short. You can stitch up a slit or use safety pins to close it up.\nLeggings or shorts are required if the skirt rises past the knees while twirling. It’s a good policy to wear shorts or leggings under your skirts regardless of length.\nNo low-cut\, strapless\, backless\, or halter tops. Straps need to be at least one inch wide. No exposed cleavage or bra straps. If you aren’t sure\, wear a cardigan over your dress.\nIf your top is sheer or see through\, you need to have solid straps underneath that are at least one inch wide.\nNo pants (other than leggings under your skirt or dress).\nClosed toe shoes are recommended. We recommend no slingback shoes. Absolutely no flip flops\, socks\, or bare feet. It is hard to dance when your shoes are super sticky/grippy on the dance floor. If you don’t have dress/dance shoes\, Converse/Keds type shoes work OK. If the girls want to wear heels\, please bring a second pair of shoes that will be more comfortable in case they need/want to remove their heels. \nPlease view the visual dress code tab on the sign up sheet. \n\nBasic Dance Etiquette. Please go over this with your dancers: \nFor Boys: \nAsk a variety of girls to dance. They are waiting for you to ask. We ask that all young men practice an attitude of chivalry.\nYou may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked.\nOffer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor.\nWhen the dance is over\, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance.\nIf we announce a Sadie Hawkins dance\, and you decline an offer to dance\, you will rest for the entire song. \nFor Girls: \nIf a boy asks you to dance\, graciously accept his offer unless you need to rest or take a breather\, in which case you may say “no thank you”. If you decline an offer to dance\, you will rest for the duration of that song.\nIf you stand with your friends in a closed circle\, it is hard and nerve wracking for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by opening up your circle. \nFor Both: \nEvery dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations.\nNot everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime. \nA Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance. The boys are to do the asking unless we announce a Sadie Hawkins dance. \n\nSIGN UP HERE

SUMMARY:TO Arts - La Maleta de Maebelle
DESCRIPTION:What: A bilingual adaptation of a celebrated & beloved picture book. Join Maebelle in her treehouse as she befriends Binkle\, a bird with a migration dilemma – he’s trying to carry too much stuff! When Maebelle generously offers her cherished suitcase from her own migration from Colombia\, she delves into profound reflections on the significance of our possessions and memories. Through laughter and tears\, they discover the beauty of remembrance and the liberating power of letting go.  Don’t miss this enchanting tale celebrating friendship\, cultural heritage\, and the universal lessons found within the stories of our lives. Featuring a two-person cast\, various styles of puppetry\, environmental themes\, & Colombian music. \nWho: ACHEV Students.  They recommend K-6th grade but pk-12th grade permitted at parental discretion. One parent chaperone per family please\, unless there are special needs.   Do not bring any children younger than age 3. \n\n\n\nCost: Free!!  They appreciate donations. https://toarts.org/programs/kids-and-the-arts/ \nThere are a lot of important details to be aware of:\n\nI (Bonnie) have signed the below statement on behalf of all attendees.  If you are not comfortable agreeing with this\, you should not attend this field trip.\n\n“By attending this field trip\, you are giving permission to TOArts to take group and possibly up-close pictures of students to use for donor relations and marketing. You additionally take responsibility to ensure that the parents of students attending are aware that their kids may be photographed. We understand that some families choose not to have their kids photographed. We have no control over excluding such children.”\n\n\nSHOW INFORMATION\n\n\n\nThe performance starts at 12pm on January 27\, 2027\nPlease plan to arrive an hour before showtime and be patient if you have to wait in line or on the bus for a little while as there will be a large number of schools attending this performance.\nThe length of the performance is 65 minutes.\n\n\n\n\nWHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARRIVE\n\nEveryone will be going through security\, including students.\nNo outside food or drink. (small plastic water bottles for students who absolutely need it are acceptable)\nMetal water bottles will absolutely not be allowed.\nNo oversized backpacks unless required for students needing ADA support (let us know in advance if needing a backpack).\nWe cannot entertain requests for specific seats. We make every effort to ensure classes are seated together. Students may relocate within their assigned block of seats. Wheelchairs and other needs are taken into consideration.\n(Note From Bonnie) – weapons/knives are also not allowed.  They didn’t mention that in the school field trip email\, I presume because that is already a rule at every brick and mortar school\, but some of our homeschooled kids carry around pocket knives and things like that and we don’t really give it a second thought.  Make sure you and your kids leave all those sorts of things in the car.  Only bring what you need.  You can also look at their rules here (though some things may not apply in our situation) https://bapacthousandoaks.com/patron-safety\n\n\nTHEATRE ETIQUETTE\n\nFor your convenience and to prepare the students for a fantastic experience\, we have put together a Theatre Etiquette Flyer  which you can find attached\, we request you review with your classrooms a few times before the show to ensure a pleasant experience for all students.\nWe understand that it is hard for kids to sit still for an hour. However\, we request that you speak to your students in advance about the importance of sitting as still and as quietly as possible to respect the performers. We ask that you remove any disruptive student(s) from the theatre. We have a cry room\, which can be used for their comfort and yours so that they can watch the show without being a distraction. One of our ambassadors can help direct you to this room if needed.\n\n\nOur kids are our next generation of theatergoers\, patrons\, and artists. We appreciate you making the commitment to the arts in your classroom!\nAFTER THE SHOW\n\nDue to the urgency to clear the parking lot and buses in a timely manner following the performance\, we are unable to accommodate requests for students to stay and enjoy a sack lunch on our property. If you wish to enjoy lunch at a nearby park\, a map and directions to local neighborhood parks where you might be able to enjoy lunch can be found here.\n\n\n\nSigning Up for This Field Trip:\n\n\nSign Up on the Google Doc\, deadline December 13\, 2026\n\nWe have reserved 32 seats.  If it is full\, please sign up on the waitlist.  There is always a good chance that someone will need to cancel\, or someone will turn up ill\, and we do not want to have any empty seats.\nIf anyone has special needs (wheelchair access\, mobility\, sensory or any other needs) we need to know about it by April 30th or sooner if possible.  You can contact Bonnie personally (805-504-6457\, bonnieadair@verizon.net) if you have special needs\, and I will inform the coordinator at the Arts Center.\n\n  \n
