SUMMARY:Of Winters Past... An English Country Dance Formal
DESCRIPTION:ACHEV English Country Dance\n \nDate:                       Saturday\, February 10th \nTime:                       7:00 pm-10:00 pm \nWho:                        6th grade and up\, alumni students\, parents\, no younger siblings\, babes in arms ok \nLocation:               Poinsettia Pavilion\, 3451 Foothill Road\, Ventura \nCost:                        $15 per person\, max $30 per family\, parents free \nBring:                      A finger-food snack to share. \nDress Code:         Dress code upheld\, see below\, be sure to share with guests\, especially dress code PDF with era photos and illustration of the minimum hemline allowed:  ECD Formal visual dress code \nChaperones:       A parent chaperone is required. Please ask another parent to help out if you are unable to come. \nGuests:                 Please clear any guests ahead of time with the dance host. \nFor period dress ideas\, watch a movie based on a Jane Austen novel (Pride and Prejudice\, Persuasion\, Sense and Sensibility\, Emma) and start visiting thrift stores. Some of the gowns from the movies are quite simple – have fun with it! Fabric stores often have historical sewing patterns\, if you are inclined to sew. \nBasic Dance Etiquette \nFor those of you who have students who have not taken a dance class at the Bozarths\, here is a review of some basic dance etiquette that is taught. \nThank you for sharing this with your young dancers. \nFor boys: \nAsk a variety of girls to dance. They are waiting for you to ask. \nYou may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked. \nOffer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor. \nWhen the dance is over\, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance. \nFor girls: \nIf a boy asks you to dance\, graciously accept his offer. \nIf you stand with your friends in a closed circle\, it is hard for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by opening up your circle. \nFor both: \nEvery dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations. \nNot everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime. \nA Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance. \nACHEV parent volunteers \nSome ACHEV parent volunteers are needed to help out. Below is the link to the sign-up sheet. \nhttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zpJarl0rHtPrWXX-3OiKumrVnXvfuekMfvuP9iek2CY/edit?usp=sharing
