Ventura\, CA 93003 \nACHEV is a support group for private Christian homeschoolers in Ventura County. SUMMARY:(Canceled/Postponed) Information Meeting: Homeschool Group In Kenya
DESCRIPTION:This is canceled for now. We may reschedule. Thank you. \n—————————————————————- \nHelping a Homeschool group in Kenya! \nA wonderful team of homeschool moms (current and “retired”) are headed to Nairobi\, Kenya\, in June. You may know these ladies: Sheri Mergenthal\, Sandra Yip\, Geneva Atchison\, and Mary Panzer. They will be visiting Pastor Murigi at Calvary Chapel Githurai\, supporting a Christian homeschool group that meets there. They are going to encourage the pastor leading the group\, as well as fellow homeschooling families\, to develop a longstanding relationship with them\, and to come alongside them and their children in order that they finish well and recognize their godly calling in the ministry of homeschooling\, that He will provide for and sustain them. You can read more about it at https://www.facebook.com/ccgithurai/ \nThe vision is to connect homeschooling families who are members of the Calvary Academy Resource Center (CARC) in Githurai with like-minded families in the U.S. for mutual support\, education\, and opportunity. \nSheri has sent three pallets of books since 2015 to help them start a lending library for supplies\, and she has gone there for support of the church and school during three of the past four years. They have asked her to return this year and to teach whatever God puts on our hearts to share. \nThey have agreed to share more about their trip and answer questions for ACHEV families who are interested.  This could be a fantastic opportunity for you and your children to have faraway friends\, to offer love\, prayer\, encouragement\, and practical resources to private Christian homeschoolers in Kenya! The meeting is Sunday\, 4/22\, at 2:00 pm at the Pineda’s home. Please RSVP so we can have a chair ready for you. Mature\, interested students may attend. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Sock Hop!
DESCRIPTION:ACHEV Sock Hop \nDate:                  Saturday\, April 21st \nTime:                  7 – 11 PM \nWho:                    6th grade and up\, alumni students\, parents\, no younger siblings\, babes in arms ok \nLocation:           Poinsettia Pavilion\, 3451 Foothill Road\, Ventura Live music: Provided by The Ramblers \nCost:                     $10 per person\, max $30 per family\, parents free \nBring:                    A finger-food snack to share. \nDress Code:        Dress code upheld\, see below and attached file for photos\, be sure to share with guests. The attachment has examples of 1950’s era\, and also a very clear illustration of the minimum hemline allowed. If you have dress code questions\, don’t hesitate to ask.  \nChaperones:      A parent chaperone is required. Please ask another parent to help out if you are unable to come. \nGuests:                Please clear any guests ahead of time with the host \nDress Code for Dances \n(Please open the attached dress code with pictures\, and please ask if you have any questions.)     Sock Hop Visual Dress Code \nIn our desire to honor the Lord in all we say and do\, which includes how we dress and present ourselves\, ACHEV would like to set forth a dress code for our dances which focuses on modesty and practicality. We have taken into consideration that many dance steps are vigorous with girls twirling or being flipped upside down. Students arriving at dances without proper attire will be asked to call a parent to bring them suitable clothing or return home to change. Please be gracious in accepting the decision of the person in charge. \nBoys \n\nCollared shirts\, (t-shirts ok for this dance)\nSlacks\, (jeans ok for this dance )\n\nGirls  \n\nSkirts or dresses knee length or longer. (This means touching the top of the knee\, regardless of leggings.) If there is a lace overlay\, the skirt underneath (solid fabric) needs to touch the knee.\nLeggings or shorts are required if the skirt rises past the knees while twirling.\nNo low-cut\, strapless\, backless\, or halter tops. Straps need to be at least one inch wide. No exposed cleavage or bra straps.\nNo pants.\n\nBasic Dance Etiquette \nFor those of you who have students who have not taken a dance class at the Bozarths\, here is a review of some basic dance etiquette that is taught. \nThank you for sharing this with your young dancers. \nFor boys: \nAsk a variety of girls to dance. They are waiting for you to ask. \nYou may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked. \nOffer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor. \nWhen the dance is over\, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance. \nFor girls: \nIf a boy asks you to dance\, graciously accept his offer. \nIf you stand with your friends in a closed circle\, it is hard for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by op ening up your circle. \nFor both: \nEvery dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations. \nNot everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime. \nA Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance.

SUMMARY:Gardens of the World
DESCRIPTION:We will be visiting the Gardens of the World!   \nWhat:  The Gardens of the World became a reality when Ed and Lynn Hogan\, founders of Pleasant Holidays\, decided to build a striking monument to commemorate the various cultures of the world. The mission of the Hogan Family Foundation is to promote the entrepreneurial spirit through the creation and operation of educational\, civic-minded and humanitarian programs designed to encourage a more productive and contributory society. \nWe will take a 45 minute docent let tour.  The gardens are set up by culture/country.  Gardens include: California mission\, English\, Italian\, French\, Japanese\, and American Bandstand.   \nWhere: 2001 Thousands Oaks Blvd\, Thousand Oaks\, CA\, 91362 \nWhen: April 10\, 2018 \nTime: 11 am  (arrive 15 minutes early to park and find our group) \nCost: Free  \nAges:  3rd grade and up (no younger siblings allowed to attend this event) \n      Only 20 students and 10 parents can go on this field trip.  \nRSVP Deadline: March 20\, 2018 \nPlease sign up on the google doc linked below: \nhttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pDyFDA9vgFdICUUI7toaSEYsEe8pmuMoA6tuhrcKJaQ/edit?usp=sharing \nAll parents must sign the form below and send it to Amy Tromans by March 20\, 2018: \nTour Guidelines Chaperone Responsibilities-signature required \nAmy’s address: \n    Amy Tromans   5265 Clemson St     Ventura\, CA 93003 \nThere is an area to have a picnic lunch\, if you wish to bring your lunch along. \n*There is limited parking (15 spots).    Please carpool\, if possible. SUMMARY:Family Dinner & Game Night
DESCRIPTION:***Update 3/28/18***Thanks to everyone who is signed up to come!  We have a full house now\, and I’m sorry we don’t have room for any more.  Maybe next month we will do this at the park or the beach and will not have limited space.  If you want to come if space opens up\, or if you want to change something on the sign up sheet\, please email me at bonnieadair@verizon.net\n \nThe Tromans and Adair families are hosting an ACHEV family pot luck and game night at the Adair home on Friday\, April 6th at 6pm.  We think it’s really important for our kids to have quality time interacting with other like-minded families and we want to help our kids build long lasting and meaningful friendships.  We already spend a lot of time playing with friends at park days and field trips\, but we want to provide some more opportunities for the whole family to get to know our ACHEV community on a personal level. \nSo\, please join us for a laid back dinner and some game time afterwards.  We are going to have a taco bar.  Please let us know if you are coming.   You can do that by putting yourself down on the list (linked below) to bring a topping or a treat \, or simply shoot me an email at bonnieadair@verizon.net.  If you can’t bring something\, don’t let that stop you from coming. We have a large variety of board games\, but if you or your kids have a favorite\, feel free to bring it with you.  We are open to learning new games\, and we hope you are\, too =) \n
