SUMMARY:Support Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Greg and Susan Pineda are opening their home several third Friday nights throughout the year for support meetings on various topics\, some for all parents\, others just for the moms. Do you have a topic idea? Contact Susan Pineda. \nTonight’s meeting is just for the moms. We will be talking about women’s health issues. \nBeing a woman can be a bit of a roller coaster ride! Puberty\, child-bearing\, peri-menopause\, menopause – all these years and stages are important\, but can be daunting. We can learn from each other\, share our struggles\, our experience\, our triumphs\, and help each other through. Some of you who have been in ACHEV for a few years may remember I had to pretty much drop everything to recover from a women’s health issue from which I honestly had no idea if I could recover. Now that I am on the other side of the problem\, I am ready to share my story and what I learned from it both physically and spiritually. I pray you may learn something from my experience. I hope others will also share experiences and wisdom as well. We have much to learn from each other. \nWhether everything is going fantastic for you in the women’s health department\, or if you feel like everything is falling apart\, or somewhere in the middle\, please come. Come to listen\, share\, and encourage. There will be no judgement\, only support. \nPlease RSVP so I can have a comfy chair ready for you.

SUMMARY:Volleyball Clinic *** Cancelled Due to Weather & Fires ***
DESCRIPTION:Come for a fun time and mark PE off on your homeschooling checklist.   Mr. Adair is starting this clinic for ACHEV boys and girls (including his own kids) to learn how to play volleyball.   They will focus on learning the skills needed to play a game: serving\, passing\, setting\, and getting the ball over the net.  They will also learn the rules of the game\, how to rotate\, the roles of each position\, and eventually they will learn the position they are best suited for with their unique abilities. \nWho: ACHEV Boys and girls ages 10 and up. \nWhen: This is a weekly clinic.  We will take the week of Thanksgiving off\, and continue through Dec 14th before breaking for the holidays.  We will start back up January 18th in the new year.   I will keep it updated on the ACHEV calendar.  This is a drop-in clinic.  You do not need to sign up or rsvp\, just come as you are and when you are able.  However\, the kids will get more out of the instruction if they come consistently.  After we have been meeting for a little while\, we can get the kids formed into teams that play against each other.  If the kids want to\, we can keep track of wins/losses. \nIf you are interested in attending this clinic please enter your information on this Google Sheet.  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wFlGsHtYL9DpaNTg4Ibj0fuv3NYwh6BUE0JkKfNvlO4/edit#gid=0  I would like to have your email and cell phone number in case I need to contact you with reminders\, and make you aware of any changes or weather cancellations. \nParents and younger siblings are welcome to stay and watch\, go play on the playground\, relax\, etc.  You may drop your child/ren off as long as they will stay with the group\, but please let Kevin know that you are dropping off and make sure he has your contact information.  It would be nice to have at least one parent that is willing to help the kids with their drills\, keep score during the game\, etc.  It won’t be hard\, I promise. \nWe are excited about this clinic and hope to see the kids grow in physical stature\, have fun working as a team\, and enjoying some friendly competition.

SUMMARY:Knitting and Crochet Group
DESCRIPTION:Knitting and Crochet Group is a drop in monthly time to learn a new skill or just to bring whatever knit or crochet project you have in progress. This is not a drop off class. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate\, but if you are unable to stay\, you may arrange with another parent to chaperone or participate in your place. \nMrs. Pineda would love to help you reach your knitting and crochet goals by teaching skills in small projects to learn the techniques you need to succeed. There may be dates for which she will have a special optional project in mind\, such as learning to dye natural yarn\, a spinning or weaving demonstration\, felting with wool\, or perhaps a field trip to an alpaca or sheep farm should the opportunity arise. \nThis year she has decided to try having enrollment so she can plan ahead based on how large the group is. Are you interested? Sign up\, or if you have questions\, contact Susan Pineda. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Tidepooling Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun time exploring low tide at Carpinteria State Beach led by Mr. Panzer.  The lowest tide is about 3:30 pm\, so we will gather at 2pm and follow the tide out\, looking at things as they gradually get exposed.  We will also have a short “guide to tidepooling” talk about how to handle animals\,  how to look for animals\, what you might expect to see and so forth. \nWho: Everyone.  This field trip is for all ACHEV members and is appropriate for all ages \nCost: This field trip is free.  The only cost is parking if you choose to park in the State Beach/Campground parking lot\, for a daily rate of $10. \nA note about parking: The main reef is right out front of the main parking lot.  If you want to park for free\, and walk\, you can look around for free street parking.  There will probably be plenty of free street parking on Linden Ave  https://goo.gl/maps/AzVcmPtxeEm \nMeeting Spot: We will meet at the picnic area near the restrooms on the Palm Ave side of the campground parking lot. \nWhat to Wear: Dress in layers\, have jackets and hats/beanies/hoodies as the temperatures and wind may change.  No bare feet!  Wear rubber soled water shoes or old tennis shoes that can get wet. \nAdditional Info: There are lots of neat places to eat near the campground if we want to get dinner or a treat afterwards\, or maybe eat out for lunch before tidepooling. \nThere is a neat series of videos all about tidepools on Amazon and they are free to watch if you have Amazon Prime.  This might be a neat way to supplement the hands on educational experience: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B00YBDUYJO/ref=atv_hm_hom_2_c_obwan_2_1?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_i=home&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3550443662&pf_rd_r=P1E2XMAZFAKDEHZS8N1S&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_t=12401 \nSign up using the Google Sheet linked below. \n

SUMMARY:Camarillo Park Day: Play Date\, Kenya Team & PE
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a play date at Nancy Bush Park in Camarillo\, conveniently located off the Las Posas Rd exit.  This park is relatively quiet during the week and the kids love the trees for climbing and the dirt path for riding bikes and things on.  There is one small and one large play structure on sand. There is enough open grass area to play sports. The bathrooms are close to the playground and are usually in good condition.  Bring lunches\, bikes\, scooters\, balls\, etc. \n11:45-12:30: The Kenya Team will bring their presentation to the park for a more intimate and casual discussion.   If you are wondering what this is all about\, a wonderful team of homeschool moms (current and “retired”) went to Nairobi\, Kenya\, in June. You may know these ladies: Sheri Mergenthal\, Sandra Yip\, Geneva Atchison\, and Mary Panzer. They visited Pastor Murigi at Calvary Chapel Githurai\, supporting a Christian homeschool group that meets there.  They have agreed to share more about their trip and answer questions for ACHEV families who are interested. This could be a fantastic opportunity for you and your children to have faraway friends\, to offer love\, prayer\, encouragement\, and practical resources to private Christian homeschoolers in Kenya! \n12:30-1:30: Mrs. Leite will lead interested kids in a game of capture the flag/other tag games. \n

SUMMARY:Knitting and Crochet Group
DESCRIPTION:Mrs. Pineda has offered to open her home one Friday morning a month throughout the year to host Knitting and Crochet Group for ACHEV students fourth grade and older and their parents. It will likely usually be the 2nd Friday of the month from 10am until noon\, but may change sometimes to work around other ACHEV activities and events. \nKnitting and Crochet Group is a drop in monthly time to learn a new skill or just to bring whatever knit or crochet project you have in progress. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Great Pacific Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:***This event was originally scheduled for Thursday October 4th\, and has been rescheduled due to rain for Wednesday October 10th. \nOh\, fall.  So many of us look forward to this season\, and pumpkins and all things pumpkin-spiced is one of the reasons why.   Join us for one of my favorite field trips of the year – every year.  We are going to the McGrath Brothers Great Pacific Pumpkin Patch – this is the same place we went to last year.  It is in Ventura on Olivas Park Drive\, it is not the one in Camarillo. \nWe will receive an educational pumpkin talk\, a hay ride on their beautiful property while we learn a bit of the history of their farm\, and then everyone can pick out their own pumpkins.  Children will get to pick out one small sugar pumpkin to take home (included in field trip fee)\, and the parents will get to pick out one medium sized pumpkin for free.  I was also told that they would open the hay maze for our kids at no additional charge. \nCost: $5 per child ages 3 and up.  (Children under 3 that do not pay the fee\, will not be able to pick out a pumpkin unless you pay for that separately).  Parent chaperones are free.  Please bring cash with you for the field trip fees. \nTime: Our tour starts at 10:45.  Please arrive at 10:30 so that I can collect cash from everyone and make payment before the tour starts. \nSign Up Here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13aMB3I9ov3Qpn1iZ06Ow4vQLug11TLyj_87Y0UJaN-U/edit#gid=0 \nAdditional Info: They have a wide and wonderful selection of pumpkins\, squash\, gourds\, and colorful corn available for purchase.   We have been to a lot of pumpkin patches\, and this is my favorite.  Below are a few pictures of some gourds that I purchased from the farm (already dried out) and we painted for Halloween. They should have a bunch of dried out gourds to choose from and they make a really fun art project for Halloween or Thanksgiving. \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Beach Day - Carpinteria
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beach play date at Carpinteria City Beach at the end of Linden Ave (near the intersection of Linden and Sandyland). It’s best to look for free street parking\, but there is paid parking in the campground where the bathrooms are. We will be meeting nearby the volleyball courts. One tip I have for this beach is to bring shoes that will protect your feet from the hot sand while walking to and from the car and if you want to play Beach Volleyball – flip flops don’t do the trick. The sand is beautiful and clean\, but gets hot very quickly when the sun is out. I will be there with my blue beach tent and my kids will have their body boards. We are bringing a picnic lunch\, but there is a neat little burger stand within walking distance from the beach called “The Spot”. \nNo need to RSVP\, but it would be nice to know you are coming. You can do that at the bottom of the page. Just one RSVP per family.

SUMMARY:Volleyball Clinic

SUMMARY:Beach Day
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a play date at Harbor Cove Beach in Ventura\, also known as “Mother’s Beach” because this beach is protected from waves. It is a great place for little swimmers to play in the water and big swimmers to really get out there without making mom worry. It is also great spot for kayaking or SUP. We are bringing a kid size kayak\, and my kids are happy to take turns with their friends if they want to give it a try. Bring your wet suits\, sand toys\, sunscreen\, hats and jackets ( you never know when the clouds will roll in or the wind will kick up). We will try to remember our volleyball if anyone wants to get a game going – they have several sand courts near the parking lot. \nParking is free and should be plentiful. There are restrooms in the parking lot. I will have a blue pop up tent. When you walk out onto the beach\, we will be set up to the right hand side in front of the right-most white buoy. \nNo need to RSVP\, but it would be nice to know if you are coming.  You can let us know by using the RSVP ticket feature at the bottom of the page .  Just one RSVP for your whole family.  Thanks!

DESCRIPTION:This is for you whether your lesson plans are in place and you are off to a great start for the school year\, or you are feeling overwhelmed trying to get your school year off the ground\, whether you are new to home education or are an experienced veteran. It is very easy to miss seeing the forest because of all the trees. Let’s climb up to see where we are headed! \nWe will talk about philosophy of education. What is it? Why does it matter? How will it help? \nWe will talk about securing and keeping our homeschool vision for the long term. \nSo\, please come to learn and share. There will be time for discussion and prayer. You are welcome to submit questions or discussion points ahead of time. \nRSVP to Susan Pineda by email (must_sew@yahoo.com) or text or call (805) 407-6851. \n

SUMMARY:Volleyball Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Come for a fun time and mark PE off on your homeschooling checklist.   Mr. Adair is starting this clinic for ACHEV boys and girls (including his own kids) to learn how to play volleyball.   They will focus on learning the skills needed to play a game: moving around the court\, serving\, passing\, setting\, and getting the ball over the net.  They will also learn the rules of the game\, how to rotate\, the roles of each position\, and eventually they will learn the position they are best suited for with their unique abilities. \nWho: ACHEV Boys and girls ages 10 and up. \nWhen: This will be a weekly clinic.  We will take Thanksgiving week off and will continue though December 14 and break for the holidays\, starting back up January 18th 2019.  I will keep it updated on the ACHEV calendar.  This is a drop-in clinic.  You do not need to sign up or rsvp\, just come as you are and when you are able.  However\, the kids will get more out of the instruction if they come consistently and after we have been meeting for a little while\, we can get the kids formed into teams that play against each other. \nWe are really looking forward to the start of this clinic and hope to see the kids grow in physical stature\, have fun working as a team\, and enjoying some friendly competition.

SUMMARY:Knitting and Crochet
DESCRIPTION:Mrs. Pineda has offered to open her home one Friday morning a month throughout the year to host Knitting and Crochet Group for ACHEV students fourth grade and older and their parents. It will likely usually be the 2nd Friday of the month from 10am until noon\, but may change sometimes to work around other ACHEV activities and events. \nKnitting and Crochet Group is a drop in monthly time to learn a new skill or just to bring whatever knit or crochet project you have in progress. Thank you.
