SUMMARY:Great Pacific Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:***This event was originally scheduled for Thursday October 4th\, and has been rescheduled due to rain for Wednesday October 10th. \nOh\, fall.  So many of us look forward to this season\, and pumpkins and all things pumpkin-spiced is one of the reasons why.   Join us for one of my favorite field trips of the year – every year.  We are going to the McGrath Brothers Great Pacific Pumpkin Patch – this is the same place we went to last year.  It is in Ventura on Olivas Park Drive\, it is not the one in Camarillo. \nWe will receive an educational pumpkin talk\, a hay ride on their beautiful property while we learn a bit of the history of their farm\, and then everyone can pick out their own pumpkins.  Children will get to pick out one small sugar pumpkin to take home (included in field trip fee)\, and the parents will get to pick out one medium sized pumpkin for free.  I was also told that they would open the hay maze for our kids at no additional charge. \nCost: $5 per child ages 3 and up.  (Children under 3 that do not pay the fee\, will not be able to pick out a pumpkin unless you pay for that separately).  Parent chaperones are free.  Please bring cash with you for the field trip fees. \nTime: Our tour starts at 10:45.  Please arrive at 10:30 so that I can collect cash from everyone and make payment before the tour starts. \nSign Up Here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13aMB3I9ov3Qpn1iZ06Ow4vQLug11TLyj_87Y0UJaN-U/edit#gid=0 \nAdditional Info: They have a wide and wonderful selection of pumpkins\, squash\, gourds\, and colorful corn available for purchase.   We have been to a lot of pumpkin patches\, and this is my favorite.  Below are a few pictures of some gourds that I purchased from the farm (already dried out) and we painted for Halloween. They should have a bunch of dried out gourds to choose from and they make a really fun art project for Halloween or Thanksgiving. \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Beach Day - Carpinteria
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beach play date at Carpinteria City Beach at the end of Linden Ave (near the intersection of Linden and Sandyland). It’s best to look for free street parking\, but there is paid parking in the campground where the bathrooms are. We will be meeting nearby the volleyball courts. One tip I have for this beach is to bring shoes that will protect your feet from the hot sand while walking to and from the car and if you want to play Beach Volleyball – flip flops don’t do the trick. The sand is beautiful and clean\, but gets hot very quickly when the sun is out. I will be there with my blue beach tent and my kids will have their body boards. We are bringing a picnic lunch\, but there is a neat little burger stand within walking distance from the beach called “The Spot”. \nNo need to RSVP\, but it would be nice to know you are coming. You can do that at the bottom of the page. Just one RSVP per family.

SUMMARY:Volleyball Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Come for a fun time and mark PE off on your homeschooling checklist.   Mr. Adair is starting this clinic for ACHEV boys and girls (including his own kids) to learn how to play volleyball.   They will focus on learning the skills needed to play a game: serving\, passing\, setting\, and getting the ball over the net.  They will also learn the rules of the game\, how to rotate\, the roles of each position\, and eventually they will learn the position they are best suited for with their unique abilities. \nWho: ACHEV Boys and girls ages 10 and up. \nWhen: This is a weekly clinic.  We will take the week of Thanksgiving off\, and continue through Dec 14th before breaking for the holidays.  We will start back up January 18th in the new year.   I will keep it updated on the ACHEV calendar.  This is a drop-in clinic.  You do not need to sign up or rsvp\, just come as you are and when you are able.  However\, the kids will get more out of the instruction if they come consistently.  After we have been meeting for a little while\, we can get the kids formed into teams that play against each other.  If the kids want to\, we can keep track of wins/losses. \nIf you are interested in attending this clinic please enter your information on this Google Sheet.  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wFlGsHtYL9DpaNTg4Ibj0fuv3NYwh6BUE0JkKfNvlO4/edit#gid=0  I would like to have your email and cell phone number in case I need to contact you with reminders\, and make you aware of any changes or weather cancellations. \nParents and younger siblings are welcome to stay and watch\, go play on the playground\, relax\, etc.  You may drop your child/ren off as long as they will stay with the group\, but please let Kevin know that you are dropping off and make sure he has your contact information.  It would be nice to have at least one parent that is willing to help the kids with their drills\, keep score during the game\, etc.  It won’t be hard\, I promise. \nWe are excited about this clinic and hope to see the kids grow in physical stature\, have fun working as a team\, and enjoying some friendly competition.

SUMMARY:Camarillo Park Day: Play Date\, Art & PE
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a play date at Nancy Bush Park in Camarillo\, conveniently located off the Las Posas Rd exit. This park is relatively quiet during the week and the kids love the trees for climbing and the dirt path for riding bikes and things on. There is one small and one large play structure on sand. There is enough open grass area to play sports. The bathrooms are close to the playground and are usually in good condition.  Bring lunches\, bikes\, scooters\, balls\, etc. \nFrom 11:30-12:30 Mrs. Tromans will lead interested kids(and adults!) in a fall painting project.  Come learn some basic watercolor techniques and make a fall pumpkin to hang up on your bulletin board.\n \nFrom 12:30-1:30 Mrs. Leite will lead interested kids in playing Capture the flag/Tag Games

SUMMARY:Beach Day
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a play date at Harbor Cove Beach in Ventura\, also known as “Mother’s Beach” because this beach is protected from waves. It is a great place for little swimmers to play in the water and big swimmers to really get out there without making mom worry. It is also great spot for kayaking or SUP. We are bringing a kid size kayak\, and my kids are happy to take turns with their friends if they want to give it a try. Bring your wet suits\, sand toys\, sunscreen\, hats and jackets ( you never know when the clouds will roll in or the wind will kick up). We will try to remember our volleyball if anyone wants to get a game going – they have several sand courts near the parking lot. \nParking is free and should be plentiful. There are restrooms in the parking lot. I will have a blue pop up tent. When you walk out onto the beach\, we will be set up to the right hand side in front of the right-most white buoy. \nNo need to RSVP\, but it would be nice to know if you are coming.  You can let us know by using the RSVP ticket feature at the bottom of the page .  Just one RSVP for your whole family.  Thanks!

SUMMARY:Knitting and Crochet
DESCRIPTION:Mrs. Pineda has offered to open her home one Friday morning a month throughout the year to host Knitting and Crochet Group for ACHEV students fourth grade and older and their parents. It will likely usually be the 2nd Friday of the month from 10am until noon\, but may change sometimes to work around other ACHEV activities and events. \nKnitting and Crochet Group is a drop in monthly time to learn a new skill or just to bring whatever knit or crochet project you have in progress. This is not a drop off class. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate\, but if you are unable to stay\, you may arrange with another parent to chaperone or participate in your place. \nMrs. Pineda would love to help you reach your knitting and crochet goals by teaching skills in small projects to learn the techniques you need to succeed. There may be dates for which she will have a special optional project in mind\, such as learning to dye natural yarn\, a spinning or weaving demonstration\, felting with wool\, or perhaps a field trip to an alpaca or sheep farm should the opportunity arise. \nThis year she has decided to try having enrollment so she can plan ahead based on how large the group is. Are you interested? Sign up\, or if you have questions\, contact Susan Pineda. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Sew Your Own Dance Skirt workshop\, day 4
DESCRIPTION:This is a 4 day workshop for ACHEV girls and parents\, grades 6-12. There is only room for 4 students\, so please sign up ASAP\, by September 8th. \nIt has been a dream of mine for a long time to share my sewing experience with ACHEV. I would love to help your daughter learn to sew a dance skirt! \nAs much as I wish we could start from the very beginning\, this class is not for beginners. If there is enough interest in a beginners workshop\, maybe I will offer that another time. For this workshop\, some basic sewing machine skills are important.  Also\, this is not a drop off class. Parents\, please come and learn with your girls! Only sign up if you plan to attend all four days. \nThis is limited to four students that meet the following prerequisites: \n\n6th grade and older\nBasic skill with straight-line sewing with a sewing machine\nPortable sewing machine that you know how to use\, the manual for it\, and basic supplies\n\nParticipants will need to purchase a suitable sewing pattern and fabric. I will provide a list of suggestions. If you need help with the shopping\, you may make an appointment to shop with me ahead of time. I have flexible time most Fridays. \nThe workshop will be held at my home in Ventura\, M-Th September 17-20\, 9am-11am. \nSign up by September 8\, please. I look forward to sewing with you! \nContact Susan Pineda.

SUMMARY:Beach Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beach play date at Carpinteria City Beach at the end of Linden Ave (near the intersection of Linden and Sandyland).

\nParking is free and should be plentiful if you arrive around 10am.  There are restrooms in the parking lot. I will have a blue pop up tent.  When you walk out onto the beach\, we will be set up to the right hand side in front of the right-most white buoy. \n**Keep in mind that the fair is in town\, so it is possible that traffic might be heavier than usual\, especially if you come late.  The fair opens at 11am. \nThere is no need to RSVP\, but it would be nice to know if you are planning on coming.  Just one rsvp for your family.

SUMMARY:Pool Party
DESCRIPTION:We are having a POOL PARTY to end the summer!  Please join us for a fun evening of playing in the pool. enjoying each other’s company. and sharing good food! We can only have  50 people attend\, so please sign up soon! \nWhen: Saturday\, August 4th (RSVP by July 31st) \nTime: 5pm to 9pm \nWhere: Los Posas Swim Club (details below) \nCost: $1 per person (You can pay at pool.) or $2 if we only have 25 people! \n  \n  \nDress Guidelines:  We recognize that everyone has a different idea of what modest dress is.  This is even more complicated when we are talking about swimwear.  Out of respect for each other\, our different viewpoints\, and recognizing the vulnerability of our young men and ladies\, we ask that all attendees follow these guidelines:  1) No exposed cleavage or abdomens\, this will probably mean most people will need to wear a rash guard/swim shirt or t-shirt. 2) No exposed gluteal folds (or as my son put it when he was 5\, “the fat part of your bottom”)\, this means that boys/men should wear swim trunks\, and girls/women should wear boy-short cut swim bottoms or a pair of trunks/board shorts/running shorts over her bathing suit or an oversized t-shirt.  3) Please be conscientious of how much you can see through the swimsuit when it is wet and in the sunlight.  I have seen many swimsuits with material that is too thin and not lined properly so that people may be showing much more than they realize.  If you need help finding appropriate attire\, try to borrow something\, I’m sure we can all help each other out. \nWhat to bring: \n-your own meat to BBQ and BBQ utensils \n-a side dish\, salad\, or dessert to share (We can have s’mores if someone wants to bring the supplies!) \n**We need one family to volunteer to bring charcoal and BBQ supplies (lighter and whatever else is needed).  Please note on the sign up sheet\, if you can help. \n***We also need one family to volunteer to bring wood and kindling to have a fire in the fire pit.  Please note on the sign up sheet\, if you can help. \n-your own drink \n-pool towels and toys \n-jackets and blankets \nPlease sign up on the the google doc linked below. \nPool Rules: No glass bottles; No dangerous toys \nWe need everyone to pitch in and help clean up at the end of the night!  We need to remove all party decorations\, wipe down picnic tables\, and sweep/rinse cabana deck to remove all food debris. We need to empty all the trash cans into the dumpster at the street and extinguish fire in fire pit.  We also need to check the bathrooms for food/trash and cover the pool before we leave. \nThere will be a lifeguard at the pool party to help keep everyone safe\, however we would like everyone to watch their own children.  The lifeguard is not a babysitter. \nWe are only able to have 50 people attend.
