SUMMARY:Camarillo Park Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a play date and a fun watercolor painting project at the Beautiful Camarillo Grove Park.  Mrs. Tromans is going to teach interested kids in using watercolors to paint a fun summer picture. \n \nBring a picnic lunch.  This park has a huge play set that my 10 year old daughter and 13 year old son just love to play on.  The play area is lined with wonderful old trees that are fun to climb and provide plentiful shade.  Just across the way is an outdoor interpretive nature center that is fun for all ages\, but is especially designed for younger kids.  Near the nature center are a couple of boulders that are great for rock climbing. \nImportant to note: \n\nIt costs $3 to park here all day\, and there is nowhere to park outside of the area to avoid the fee.  You will need to bring cash.\nThis is an off leash dog park all day.   Dogs are allowed off leash in all areas except for the nature center and hiking trails.\n\n

SUMMARY:ACHEV Fine Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Better late than never\, right?! \nThe Arts Festival is wonderful time for our students to share their God-given talents.  This is a non-judged activity\, designed to appreciate these God-given talents of the homeschool community.  Due to time constraints\, we may need to limit the number of activities per person (i.e. 2 solo events) depending on how many entries we receive! \nWe’ve had an amazing response in the past with such creative entries as comedic skits\, dance\, bands\, mime\, poetry reading\, excerpts from plays\, films\, instrumental solos (piano\, guitar\, harp\, violin…)\, vocal solos\, photography\, drawings\, sewing\, knitting\, models and more.  This is also a great opportunity to recognize and encourage the hard work that goes into developing these life enriching skills. \nThis year\, we would really like to see 2 or 3 parents show off one of their talents.  Don’t you think they would totally get a kick out of that?!  Now is your chance to “walk the walk” and show the kids that you aren’t afraid to get up in front of a group of people and perform – even though you are –  lol.  It’s okay\, we won’t laugh\, we will be totally encouraging.  Do any of you moms or dads play an instrument\, know how to juggle\, walk on your hands\, or drink a gallon of milk in 30 seconds?  No?  Me either\, but I’m sure you can think of something! \nWe are using Google Forms this year.  Let us know if you have any questions about filling them out.  At the end of the form\, you can select to have a copy emailed to you.  If you choose to have a copy of your response emailed to you\, the email will contain a link allowing you to edit your response if need be.  You may not be able to edit your response without this link.  If you make a mistake we can also delete the old form and you can submit it again.  It does not take long to fill out. \nPlease fill out your submission forms no later than Friday\, June 8th.  Please submit a separate form for each piece of artwork and each performance. \nVisual: \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScg6rjho73vjq1BEpBkxKBql15WqVat_y3jN36DkAwh3xjEEQ/viewform?usp=sf_link \nPerforming: \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeInw1gAXOD01ulm9SlJdjqfVm8NlxWUpU0IyXDufnV5jUyVQ/viewform?usp=sf_link \nPlease sign up for a volunteer job:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ggWp6W9WpOu-QYFWBKIKEuOphNI30AkxHKGUcmmfNPs/edit?usp=sharing \nPlease drop off your art no later than Saturday June 9th. \nCamarillo Art Drop Off: Janell Jones\, 1440 Old Ranch Road\, Camarillo\, CA 93012\,  janellrjones@me.com\, 805-469-7885 \nVentura Art Drop Off: Patty Silver\, 7427 Marmota Ct.\, Ventura\, CA 93003\, patricia.silver@me.com\, 805-220-0330 \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Dad's Night Out Bowling

SUMMARY:Used Curricululm (and more!) Exchange
DESCRIPTION:The Used Curriculum Exchange is a great way to wrap up the school year and start thinking about the next. It will be at Camino Real Park\, so there will be friends\, play\, sunshine\, and lots of neat resources to browse.  Pack a picnic lunch and bring outdoor play items if you wish. There are tennis courts\, a basket ball court\, baseball diamonds\, lots of open space\, and several play structures. \nWe like to have this event after the graduations\, but before the CHEA Convention\, so you not only get a chance to pass along what you no longer need\, but you may find some of the resources on your list\, free or at garage sale prices\, before you start shopping at the CHEA Convention or shopping online. In the internet age\, we sometimes forget how helpful it is to see books and ask our friends questions before making decisions. \nIt’s more than curriculum! Bring clothes your children have outgrown\, toys they no longer want\, too. I will have an EZ-Up to hang up clothing to make them easier to browse. Consider bringing skirts\, dresses\, slacks\, and gowns you no longer need that would be suitable for some of the ACHEV dances next year! \nRemember to price realistically. Events like this are more about passing the blessing on\, rather than recovering the cost. Remember how wonderful it is to be on the receiving side of a great deal! \nAt the end of the event\, anything you wish for me to donate\, please set in an area designated FREE/DONATE. I will donate whatever is there when I leave. \nThe City of Ventura asks that we keep the exchange within our group. Current and former members are welcome\, but no sales to the public. Thank you. \nI will arrive a little early to secure a spot and set out a sign. I will try for near the play structure by the tennis courts where there is a plenty of parking and space. If not there\, continue around toward the BBQ picnic areas.

SUMMARY:Beach Day
DESCRIPTION:We are having beach day instead of Camarillo park day this first Tuesday of June.  We are going to get there early (10am) to make sure that we can get close parking.  It is nearing summer\, and I like to beat the crowds\, so please come and keep us company. \nJoin us for a beach play date on Tuesday June 5th at Carpinteria City Beach at the end of Linden Ave (near the intersection of Linden and Sandyland). It’s best to look for free street parking which is typically really close.  We will be meeting nearby the volleyball courts.   One tip I have for this beach is to bring shoes that will protect your feet from the hot sand while walking to and from the car and if you want to play Beach Volleyball\, flip flops don’t do the trick.  The sand is beautiful and clean\, but gets hot very quickly when the sun is out.  I will be there with my blue beach tent and my kids will have their body boards.  We are bringing a picnic lunch\, but there is a neat little burger stand within walking distance from the beach called “The Spot”.

SUMMARY:(Canceled/Postponed) Information Meeting: Homeschool Group In Kenya
DESCRIPTION:This is canceled for now. We may reschedule. Thank you. \n—————————————————————- \nHelping a Homeschool group in Kenya! \nA wonderful team of homeschool moms (current and “retired”) are headed to Nairobi\, Kenya\, in June. You may know these ladies: Sheri Mergenthal\, Sandra Yip\, Geneva Atchison\, and Mary Panzer. They will be visiting Pastor Murigi at Calvary Chapel Githurai\, supporting a Christian homeschool group that meets there. They are going to encourage the pastor leading the group\, as well as fellow homeschooling families\, to develop a longstanding relationship with them\, and to come alongside them and their children in order that they finish well and recognize their godly calling in the ministry of homeschooling\, that He will provide for and sustain them. You can read more about it at https://www.facebook.com/ccgithurai/ \nThe vision is to connect homeschooling families who are members of the Calvary Academy Resource Center (CARC) in Githurai with like-minded families in the U.S. for mutual support\, education\, and opportunity. \nSheri has sent three pallets of books since 2015 to help them start a lending library for supplies\, and she has gone there for support of the church and school during three of the past four years. They have asked her to return this year and to teach whatever God puts on our hearts to share. \nThey have agreed to share more about their trip and answer questions for ACHEV families who are interested.  This could be a fantastic opportunity for you and your children to have faraway friends\, to offer love\, prayer\, encouragement\, and practical resources to private Christian homeschoolers in Kenya! The meeting is Sunday\, 4/22\, at 2:00 pm at the Pineda’s home. Please RSVP so we can have a chair ready for you. Mature\, interested students may attend. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Sock Hop!
DESCRIPTION:ACHEV Sock Hop \nDate:                  Saturday\, April 21st \nTime:                  7 – 11 PM \nWho:                    6th grade and up\, alumni students\, parents\, no younger siblings\, babes in arms ok \nLocation:           Poinsettia Pavilion\, 3451 Foothill Road\, Ventura Live music: Provided by The Ramblers \nCost:                     $10 per person\, max $30 per family\, parents free \nBring:                    A finger-food snack to share. \nDress Code:        Dress code upheld\, see below and attached file for photos\, be sure to share with guests. The attachment has examples of 1950’s era\, and also a very clear illustration of the minimum hemline allowed. If you have dress code questions\, don’t hesitate to ask.  \nChaperones:      A parent chaperone is required. Please ask another parent to help out if you are unable to come. \nGuests:                Please clear any guests ahead of time with the host \nDress Code for Dances \n(Please open the attached dress code with pictures\, and please ask if you have any questions.)     Sock Hop Visual Dress Code \nIn our desire to honor the Lord in all we say and do\, which includes how we dress and present ourselves\, ACHEV would like to set forth a dress code for our dances which focuses on modesty and practicality. We have taken into consideration that many dance steps are vigorous with girls twirling or being flipped upside down. Students arriving at dances without proper attire will be asked to call a parent to bring them suitable clothing or return home to change. Please be gracious in accepting the decision of the person in charge. \nBoys \n\nCollared shirts\, (t-shirts ok for this dance)\nSlacks\, (jeans ok for this dance )\n\nGirls  \n\nSkirts or dresses knee length or longer. (This means touching the top of the knee\, regardless of leggings.) If there is a lace overlay\, the skirt underneath (solid fabric) needs to touch the knee.\nLeggings or shorts are required if the skirt rises past the knees while twirling.\nNo low-cut\, strapless\, backless\, or halter tops. Straps need to be at least one inch wide. No exposed cleavage or bra straps.\nNo pants.\n\nBasic Dance Etiquette \nFor those of you who have students who have not taken a dance class at the Bozarths\, here is a review of some basic dance etiquette that is taught. \nThank you for sharing this with your young dancers. \nFor boys: \nAsk a variety of girls to dance. They are waiting for you to ask. \nYou may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked. \nOffer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor. \nWhen the dance is over\, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance. \nFor girls: \nIf a boy asks you to dance\, graciously accept his offer. \nIf you stand with your friends in a closed circle\, it is hard for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by op ening up your circle. \nFor both: \nEvery dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations. \nNot everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime. \nA Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance.

SUMMARY:Family Dinner & Game Night
DESCRIPTION:***Update 3/28/18***Thanks to everyone who is signed up to come!  We have a full house now\, and I’m sorry we don’t have room for any more.  Maybe next month we will do this at the park or the beach and will not have limited space.  If you want to come if space opens up\, or if you want to change something on the sign up sheet\, please email me at bonnieadair@verizon.net\n \nThe Tromans and Adair families are hosting an ACHEV family pot luck and game night at the Adair home on Friday\, April 6th at 6pm.  We think it’s really important for our kids to have quality time interacting with other like-minded families and we want to help our kids build long lasting and meaningful friendships.  We already spend a lot of time playing with friends at park days and field trips\, but we want to provide some more opportunities for the whole family to get to know our ACHEV community on a personal level. \nSo\, please join us for a laid back dinner and some game time afterwards.  We are going to have a taco bar.  Please let us know if you are coming.   You can do that by putting yourself down on the list (linked below) to bring a topping or a treat \, or simply shoot me an email at bonnieadair@verizon.net.  If you can’t bring something\, don’t let that stop you from coming. We have a large variety of board games\, but if you or your kids have a favorite\, feel free to bring it with you.  We are open to learning new games\, and we hope you are\, too =) \n
