SUMMARY:CASA Getty Villa Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:CASA has invited ACHEV to join them on another fun field trip!  We are invited to go to the Getty Villa!\n\nDate: September 18\, 2019\n\nTime: 9:30 AM to 11 AM\n\nCost: free\n\nWho: ACHEV Members 6 years old & older\n\n\n\nDescription:\nLet’s kick off the school year together while viewing 7\,000 years of ancient art\, from the end of the Stone Age to the fall of the Roman Empire at a field trip to the Getty Villa! The Villa is a museum that is a recreation of an ancient Roman country house. “It offers a taste of life in the first century A.D.”\n\nOur guided visit at the Villa will be from 10-11 am and will be taught by a Gallery Docent. Please arrive at 9:30 to find parking and meet up with our group. During the visit\, students will study a limited number of objects in depth rather than tour the entire collection. Our lesson will be highly participatory. Students will work in small groups and engage in discussion\, writing\, role-playing\, and\, in some cases\, art-making activities. \nWe need at least 15 students to attend to guarantee a docent. I have reserved spots for 20 students so we can have two groups of 10 with two docents. Only one parent per family will be able to attend the tour since the gallery rooms are small. \nAfter the tour ends at 11\, their picnic area is reserved for us from 11-11:30. If you choose to bring a picnic lunch\, please bring it with you after you park and the Villa will store them for us. Please use small lunch bags since their storage is limited. \nAfter lunch\, their family room is open to us. This is a great “hands on” area especially for younger kids. Self guided audio tours are also available at this time. \nFor more information about the Villa\, please visit: https://www.getty.edu/visit/villa/ \nPlease contact Amy Leite if you are interested in joining this tour.

We can only have  50 people attend\, so please sign up soon! \nWhen: Saturday\, August 10th (RSVP by Wed Aug 7th) \nTime: 5pm to 9pm \nWhere: Los Posas Swim Club (details below). \nCost: $3 per person (swimming or not). $2.50 per person if we have 48- 50 people.  We will be sharing the cost of the lifeguard. \nDress Guidelines:  We recognize that everyone has a different idea of what modest dress is.  This is even more complicated when we are talking about swimwear.  Out of respect for each other\, our different viewpoints\, and recognizing the vulnerability of our young men and ladies\, we ask that all attendees follow these guidelines:  1) No exposed cleavage or abdomens\, this will probably mean most people will need to wear a rash guard/swim shirt or t-shirt. 2) No exposed gluteal folds\, this means that boys/men should wear swim trunks\, and girls/women should wear boy-short cut swim bottoms or a pair of trunks/board shorts/running shorts over her bathing suit or an oversized t-shirt.  3) If you need help finding appropriate attire\, try to borrow something\, I’m sure we can all help each other out. \nWhat to bring: \n-your own meat to BBQ and BBQ utensils \n-a side dish\, salad\, or dessert to share (We can have s’mores if someone wants to bring the supplies!) \n**We need one family to volunteer to bring charcoal and BBQ supplies (lighter and whatever else is needed).  Please note on the sign up sheet\, if you can help. \n***We also need one family to volunteer to bring wood and kindling to have a fire in the fire pit.  Please note on the sign up sheet\, if you can help. \n-your own drinks \n-pool towels and toys \n-jackets and blankets \nPlease sign up on the the google doc linked below. \nPool Rules: No glass bottles; No dangerous toys \nWe need everyone to pitch in and help clean up at the end of the night!  We need to remove all party decorations\, wipe down picnic tables\, and sweep/rinse cabana deck to remove all food debris. We need to empty all the trash cans into the dumpster at the street and extinguish fire in fire pit.  We also need to check the bathrooms for food/trash and cover the pool before we leave. \nThere will be a lifeguard at the pool party to help keep everyone safe\, however we would like everyone to watch their own children.  The lifeguard is not a babysitter. \nWe are only able to have 50 people attend.

SUMMARY:Beach Day in Ventura
DESCRIPTION:Let’s Meet up at the beach for some fun playing in the sand\, volleyball\, swimming & kayaking at Harbor Cove Beach\, aka Mother’s Beach\, aka the “beach with no waves”.  This park is awesome for moms because it is protected by jetties from the waves.  It is easier to watch the little ones and let them play in the water.   The big kids can swim out really far with or without a boogie board\, explore the rocks\, and play beach volleyball on the sand courts.  We have a kid sized kayak that we bring to this beach\, it is also good for SUP if you happen to have one ( and if you do\, I want a turn!).    There are restroom and shower facilities here. \nWe will meet in the middle of the beach\, to the right of the blue beach carpet.  I will have my blue tent set up.  I have a 14 year old boy\, 11 year old girl\, a 3 year old girl (who is really scared of the water) and a 2 year old boy (who has yet to develop a healthy fear of the water).

SUMMARY:Prayer Evening
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in prayer Friday evening\, 6/7\, for the Garcia family. Joel and Ondreea Garcia joined ACHEV last year. We have enjoyed getting to know Ondreea and her daughters at park day. Ondreea shared the following heartbreaking need for prayer and support\, \n“Sadly\, my daughter-in-law took her own life. She left behind my son and 17 month old grandson. If you could share a prayer request for them\, it would mean a lot.” \nWhile we will dedicate the evening to prayer for the Garcia family\, there will be time to pray for whatever is burdening you. There is nothing too big or too small for God. Scripture tells us He wants us to bring everything to Him in prayer. Let us do that together. \nSo I can have enough chairs ready\, please let me know you are coming. ~ Susan Pineda (805) 407-6851 or must_sew@yahoo.com.

SUMMARY:Year End Resource and Clothing Exchange Party
DESCRIPTION:Time to go through your shelves\, bins and closets! Your outgrown resources and clothing might be exactly what another ACHEV family needs. Someone else may have exactly what you need! In fact\, you don’t have to bring anything to participate. You could just come for the play\, fellowship and shopping. \nWhile the kids browse or play at the park\, celebrate the end of the school year with fellowship\, sunshine and your wishlist for next year. We have timed it so hopefully you can collect some of what you need here\, then next month you can check out the used curriculum hall or the exhibit hall at the CHEA Convention. \nCity ordinance requires we exchange within our group. No sales to public\, but if people wander in to inquire\, be sure to share about home education and ACHEV. We’ve had some wonderful conversations with curious people over the years. Some have joined ACHEV. \nEvery year we have a free table for anything you don’t want to take home with you. This year\, Geneva Atchison is collecting resources to send to a Christian homeschool group in Kenya\, so I will have her pull out what they can use before donating the rest\, most likely to Abednego Book Shoppe in Ventura. \nCamino Real is a big park. Areas are first come\, first served\, so look for the ACHEV whiteboard easel and maybe a pop-up tent or play tipi. Last year we did well by the play structure near the tennis courts. \nSuggestions for what to bring: resources and/or clothing to sell or give\, camp chairs or blankets\, a folding table if you wish\, bags and/or boxes for shopping\, small bills for making change\, picnic lunch\, sunscreen\, outdoor play or sports equipment\, small pop-up tent. \nQuestions? Contact Susan Pineda at must_sew@yahoo.com or (805) 407-6851.
