SUMMARY:Rumba Class - Session 2

DESCRIPTION:What: Teen directed board games.   We have tons of board games.  You are welcome to bring a favorite game from home to share with the group as well.  They usually start out with board games and will sometimes migrate towards group role play games at the end of the afternoon.  They have a lot of fun.  We have snacks\, so feel free to bring one to share but it is not needed so don’t stress about bringing something. \nWho: ACHEV members 6th Grade and up\, recent ACHEV grads. \nRSVP: Is helpful so that I can make sure we have enough chairs and tables out\, or in case we need to change the host home in case of illness\, etc.  Bonnieadair@verizon.net 805-504-6457 \nDrop off is okay for this event.  Feel free to go home or run errands\, etc.  If parents prefer to stay\, that is welcome as well\, and if you have younger children with you they can stay also.  Please let me know if you will be bringing younger children with you so I can plan something for our younger kids to do together while the teens have their game time. \n

DESCRIPTION:ACHEV families\, bring your used curricula\, books and other home school items and any used clothing that you would like to sell or give away to other home schooling families. You are welcome bring anything you wish to donate to the ACHEV Curriculum Library\, and you are welcome to leave anything you do not wish to take back home with you. We will have a table designated for donation.\n\nThis is a lovely event for fellowship for all ages. It’s a chance to look at curriculum\, too! The kids can have a great time\, too\, even bringing some of their own money to spend\, and\, of course\, to play all morning with their friends. Good times!\n\nCamino Real Park is large and beautiful with lots of play areas\, tennis courts\, basketball court\, baseball diamonds\, and multiple play structures. Perhaps some of the older kids and parents would like to get some games going! Camino Real Park has easy parking for loading/unloading. SUMMARY:Alpaca Shearing Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:If you are wiling to be flexible Saturday\, June 10\, 2023\, we have an opportunity to watch an alpaca shearing at a ranch in the Oak View/Ojai area\, not far from Camp Comfort. \nThe alpaca owner\, Teresa\, lives at 10587 Encino Drive\, Oak View\, 93022\, very close to Camp Comfort\, so she suggests bringing snacks and enjoying the park there if we find ourselves with extra time on either side of the shearing. \nWe have to be flexible because the shearer can only give a window of time for his arrival\, so the farm owner suggests we arrive at 11:00am and the farm\, but then be prepared to hang out quietly\, or visit a the nearby park at Camp Comfort\, should the shearer be delayed. \nThis field trip is a great compliment to the Gilchrist Farm Sheep to Spindle field trip we had in April. Alpaca fleece is different from wool in several ways\, but the steps to prepare the fiber for spinning is similar. \nWould you like to join me? Please sign up. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked.\nOffer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor\nWhen the dance is over\, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance.\n\nFor Girls: \n\nIf a boy asks you to dance\, graciously accept his offer unless you need to rest or take a breather\, in which case you may say “no thank you”.  If you decline an offer to dance\, you will rest for the duration of that song.\nIf you stand with your friends in a closed circle\, it is hard and nerve wracking for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by opening up your circle.\n\nFor Both: \n\nEvery dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations.\nNot everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime.  Fortunately\, at this dance\, everyone will get a cha cha lesson to help you get started.\nA Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance.  The boys are to do the asking unless we announce a Sadie Hawkins dance.\nIf you decline an offer to dance\, that means you will be sitting out for the entire dance.\nIt is okay to sit out for a dance\, but remember\, we are here to dance.  This is a special occasion\, and the primary activity until 9pm will be dancing.  At 9pm we will have snacks and board games available if you would like to take a break from dancing.\n\n \n  \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Nature Hike & Craft
DESCRIPTION:What: Hey moms of littles\, let’s get together at Camarillo Grove Park for some nature play.  We’ll meet in the nature center gazebo (as long as it’s available) and start with a short picture book.  Then we’ll go on a hike at a comfortable pace for the younger kids\, giving them time to pick up rocks and sticks and whatever else they are interested in.  Camarillo Grove has a great trail that is fun\, short\, and just enough of an incline to make it interesting.  It will take 30-45 minutes to finish the hike.  We can stop at play around the boulders for a little while\, and then the hike ends at the nature center.   We will do a bird related nature craft after the hike\, eat lunch\, and play on the playground.  Activities will be geared towards the 10 and under crowd\, but all ages are welcome. \nIf you have teens\, like I do\, they can have fun at this park also.  A mature group of teens can hike the trail on their own for exercise\, and bring the family dog.  My older kids like climbing the boulders – there are some big ones and it’s pretty fun.  The craft I am planning is easy enough for preschoolers but would also be fun for older kids & teens who enjoy crafty things. \nWhere: Camarillo Grove Park.  The property for Camarillo Grove Park was donated by Adolfo Camarillo.   It is a former stagecoach stop\, and home to the oldest tree in the district.  This park is beautiful and we just love exploring here.   https://www.pvrpd.org/camarillo-grove-park \nCost: There is a $3 parking fee\, and there is nowhere to park to avoid the fee. \nBring: Your picnic lunch and leave it in the car for after the hike.   Comfortable clothes\, tennis shoes\, hats\, layers and sunscreen.   Kids can bring nature journals\, magnifying glasses\, binoculars\, or anything else that they think will be fun to bring for exploring. \nNote: Please be aware that this is an off-leash dog park.  Dogs are not allowed inside the gated nature center at all\, and dogs must be on a leash on the trails (but that doesn’t mean that everyone leashes their dogs on the trail).  Dogs are allowed to be off-leash everywhere else inside the park. \nRSVP is needed so I have enough craft supplies\, thank you! =)\n

SUMMARY:Glass Bottom Boat Tour- Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:What: View Morro Bay above water and below from our semi-submersible vessel. See schools of fish\, jellyfish and kelp\, from inside the boat! From above deck\, see our local sea otter\, harbor seal and sea lion populations.  We’ll have a private educational tour that includes the history of Morro Rock.  45-60 minute tour. \nTime: TBD  I am aiming for a tour at 11am (earliest)\, 12pm\, 1pm\, or 2pm (latest).  I have contacted the company already and ensured availability\, but I need another family or two committed to joining the tour before I actually book it.  We should be able to get the time that we want\, so if you have a preference please tell me. \nWho: ACHEV Families\, including non- ACHEV siblings\, grandparents\, aunts/uncles\, etc. \nCost: $15-$20 per person .  A private tour is $300 with a maximum of 21 people.  If we fill the boat\, it works out to about $15 per person.  I will need to collect $ in advance and will contact you to arrange that after you sign up. \nMorro Bay is a beautiful place to take a day trip and the closest place that I am aware of that you can view sea otters in the wild.  There are so many fun things to do there.  Some activities I hope to include in our day (optional) is a visit to the Morro Bay natural History Museum https://www.morrobay.org/listing/morro-bay-state-park-museum-of-natural-history/15568/  If others are interested\, I can contact them to see if i can book a docent led tour/field trip either before or after our sub sea tour.  Another great place to visit if you are studying sea creatures this year\, is the Elephant Seals in San Simeon   The viewing point is 40 minutes North of Morro Bay.  it is not the peak time to see large populations\, so before deciding to visit here\, I would call to see what the likelihood of seeing elephant seals is.  I am also thinking about renting kayaks and kayaking around the harbor – when my husband and I did this a long time ago\, we were actually kayaking alongside sea otters. \nSign Up Here\n \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Please note I have changed the day of the week to TUESDAY for the month of May.  Teen Game Club will be the 2nd & 4th TUESDAYS for May. \nWhat: Teen directed board games.   We have tons of board games.  You are welcome to bring a favorite game from home to share with the group as well.  They usually start out with board games and will migrate towards group role play games at the end of the afternoon.  They have a lot of fun.  We have snacks\, so feel free to bring one to share but it is not needed so don’t stress about bringing something. \nWho: ACHEV members 6th Grade and up\, recent ACHEV grads. \nRSVP: Is needed so that I can make sure we have enough chairs and tables out\, or in case we need to change the host home in case of illness\, etc.  Bonnieadair@verizon.net 805-504-6457 \nDrop off is okay for this event.  Feel free to go home or run errands\, etc.  If parents prefer to stay\, that is welcome as well\, and if you have younger children with you they can stay also.  Please let me know if you will be bringing younger children with you so I can plan something for our younger kids to do together while the teens have their game time. \n
