DESCRIPTION:What: We would like to invite you to our Totally Rad 80’s Dance party.  80’s music will be featured\, and period dress is encouraged!  We will have a fun photo spot for taking pictures.  Read on for dress code and clothing ideas.  Please read this entire notice and pay attention that you must: \n\nSign up in advance for this dance.  Students and parents need to sign up.  I need to make sure that we have enough attendees to be able to pay the venue\, and we also have a maximum number we cannot exceed.\nBe on time.  Please do not sign up for this dance unless you can be on time.\nPlease carefully read the dress code and etiquette guidelines below and share them with your guests.\nParticipate in the dance lesson that begins at 7pm\, and most importantly…\nCome prepared to dance the night away with old and new friends\, have a good attitude and do your best!\n\nWhen:  Saturday\, July 26th from 7:00-10:15 \nWhere: House of Dance: 3007 Bunsen Ave Ste E\, Ventura\, CA https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/ \nCost: $15 per student/grad\, includes a 30 minute dance lesson at the beginning\, taught by Patricia Monico.  Parent chaperones are free and welcome to join the lesson and dancing. \nPayment: Payment in advance is very helpful \, but not required.  You can pay with cash or Zelle when you arrive. \n        Advance Payment Options: \n\nDeliver Cash or check (made payable to “ACHEV”) to Bonnie Adair in person at 174 Granada Street\, Camarillo\, CA 93010.  You can drop in my mailbox in an envelope with a note\, send through USPS\, or meet up with me somewhere.\nZelle: ACHEV can now accept Zelle payments to achevmail@gmail.com.  If you use Zelle please include a note that payment is for the 80’s dance and list the names of the students/grads/guests you are paying for.\nPayments for this dance are going through ACHEV.  Please don’t send any personal payments to Bonnie or payment to House of Dance.  I will be collecting all payments through ACHEV and delivering payment to House of Dance in one lump-sum.\n\nWho: ACHEV members 6th Grade and up\, ACHEV parents\, and ACHEV graduates are also welcome.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to join in the dancing.  *Younger siblings are not permitted at this dance. \nGuests:  Space is limited.  Guests will not be approved until July 12th.     Clear all guests through Bonnie Adair bonnieadair@verizon.net and make sure they are on the sign up sheet if approved.  Most importantly\, be sure that they are familiar with the dress code and etiquette (below). \nChaperones: Each student under 18 must have a parent chaperone.  You may have another parent chaperone in your place.  Chaperones are responsible for the behavior and safety of their children for the duration of the event. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nWater bottles.  This helps reduce costs and waste.   We will have water and cups available in case someone forgets theirs.\nAn extra pair of shoes in case your dress shoes become uncomfortable.    Bare feet or socks only is not permitted.\nA finger food to share with the group.  Please don’t bring any beverages other than water.  No Gum.\n\nHow to Sign up:  Click Here for sign up sheet\nDress Code: \nWe don’t enjoy having to ask people to change\, so please help out your fellow moms and follow the dress code carefully.  If you are having trouble\, or are unsure about anything\, reach out and ask questions or ask to borrow something.  Carefully read the dress code here in pdf form: 80s Dance Visual Dress Code 2024  or here in Google Docs to review the dress code for this dance. \nBasic Dance Etiquette.  Please go over this with your dancers:\nFor Boys: \n\nAsk a variety of girls to dance.  They are waiting for you to ask.\nYou may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked.\nOffer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor\nWhen the dance is over\, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance.\n\nFor Girls: \n\nIf a boy asks you to dance\, graciously accept his offer unless you need to rest or take a breather\, in which case you may say “no thank you”.  If you decline an offer to dance\, you will rest for the duration of that song.\nIf you stand with your friends in a closed circle\, it is hard and nerve wracking for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by opening up your circle.\n\nFor Both: \n\nEvery dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations.\nNot everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime.  Fortunately\, at this dance\, everyone will get a cha cha lesson to help you get started.\nA Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance.  The boys are to do the asking unless we announce a Sadie Hawkins dance.\nIf you decline an offer to dance\, that means you will be sitting out for the entire dance\nPlease listen and follow instructions during the dance lesson without too much chatting.\n\nFor Parent Chaperones: \nDuring the lesson from 7-7:30 if you are not taking the lesson\, please refrain from chatting much.  Even low voices\, when there are a lot of them\,  can get loud.  It is difficult for the teacher to compete with the additional noise. \nVolunteers Help the event run smoothly.  Please consider signing up for a volunteer help job at the dance. \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:What: Private ballroom dance classes for ACHEV at House of Dance – Lesson for 45 minutes\, dance practice to music for 15 minutes. \nFirst Class is September 3rd\, continuing weekly through September 24th.  We can continue with salsa through October if we have enough students wanting to continue.   \nWho: ACHEV members\, ACHEV siblings\, grads & guests 11 and up.  Only ACHEV Members can invite guests: guests do not need to be ACHEV members\, but need to be homeschooled.  Please clear invited homeschooling friends through Bonnie at bonnieadair@verizon.net.   Current ACHEV members are given priority on the sign up sheet\, ACHEV grads next\, and then guests.  Do not add any guests to the sign up sheet without approval first\, and do not share the sign up sheet outside of ACHEV. \nWe must have equal number boys and girls in order for the class to work.  We can keep a waitlist in case space opens up prior to the first class in a series.  Minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls in order to hold these classes.  Partners rotate throughout the class. \nWhere: House of Dance \, 3007 Bunsen Ave\, Ventura 93003   https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/ \nWhen: Wednesdays 4pm – 5:00 pm \nCost: $10 per student per class payable to House of Dance in advance on the first of each month.  $40 payable on September 3rd.  Pay in advance via Venmo or Zelle (info at https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/)  Or pay with cash or check when you arrive on the first Wednesday of the month.  If you pay via Venmo or Zelle\, please include a note “ACHEV Homeschool class”.  Do not send payment to ACHEV or to me (Bonnie) personally. \nWhat to Bring & Wear: Bring your own water bottles.  There is no drinking fountain.  There is no special dress code\, other than ACHEV’s general dress code for all events which is\, “modest and appropriate for the occasion”.   Some girls choose to wear dresses and skirts\, but you can wear pants or shorts.  Boys can wear pants or shorts.  Be comfortable.  If you do not have felt bottomed dance shoes (felt bottomed dance shoes are ideal)\, try to choose a shoe that is not grippy and rubbery on bottom.  Leather soled dress shoes or Vans-type skateboard shoes are okay.  Absolutely NO flip flops.  No sandals\, no Uggs.  Boots/cowboy boots/work boots are not good for ballroom or swing dancing and if you step on your partner (it happens) it will hurt a lot if you are wearing a heavy boot\, please don’t wear heavy boots.  You want to be able to slide/glide on the floor\, turn easily on your toes (sometimes on your heels) and point your toes. \nTo purchase good quality dance shoes (recommended but not required)\, go here \nPayment Policy: \nPayment for the month of classes is due in full at the beginning of the first class of the month.  There will be no refunds or credits for missed classes.  We understand that sometimes illness or unexpected circumstances come up on short notice\, but in order to keep these classes affordable\, House of Dance cannot issue refunds or credits.    If you know before a series starts that you will need to miss a class\, please check with the organizer to make sure that will be okay before signing up (it depends on a variety of factors)\, and the full amount of the series will still be due at the first class. \nNotes on Attendance: These classes are not drop-in classes.  Signing up in advance is required.  After the series has begun\, we cannot add new students.  If you sign up for a series\, your classmates are counting on you to be there for all the classes other than illness or other unavoidable/unforeseen circumstances\, because these classes are most enjoyable when everyone has a partner.  Additionally\, learning dance is sequential and if you miss too many classes\, it can be difficult to catch up and it can hold up others in the class. \nQuestions?  Bonnieadair@verizon.net or 805-504-6457 call or text. \nWe must have an even number of boys and girls.  Any girls in excess of boys\, or vice versa\, are considered to be on the waitlist.  We must have a minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls to proceed with the class. \nSign Up Here for Salsa in September 2025\nQuestions? Sacred Harp music is a traditional form of a cappella shape note singing and has roots in the early American church. The music has a distinctively raw style and sound. Check out this brief intro video to Sacred Harp music. \nThis year\, generous donors from the Sacred Harp community gifted Allyson with 16 copies of the new 2025 Sacred Harp book for the purpose of growing Sacred Harp music within her homeschool community! \nNo previous music ability necessary! You are welcome to come try it out if you’re on the fence. \n  \nWhat: 30-45 minutes of basic instruction reading shape notes and singing from the Sacred Harp. Allyson will help break down the parts as needed. We will review songs from previous months\, learn a new song or two each session—and most importantly—enjoy worshiping together! \nOptional: After singing\, we can walk over to the Pleasant Valley Soccer Field park (2 min walk) and let the kids play for a bit afterwards. Looking at about 1.5 hrs total\, including park time. \nWho: ACHEV Members all ages\, moms and dads voices too! DESCRIPTION:What: Private ballroom dance classes for ACHEV at House of Dance – Lesson for 45 minutes\, dance practice to music for 15 minutes. \nFirst Class is September 3rd\, continuing weekly through September 24th.  We can continue with salsa through October if we have enough students wanting to continue.   \nWho: ACHEV members\, ACHEV siblings\, grads & guests 11 and up.  Only ACHEV Members can invite guests: guests do not need to be ACHEV members\, but need to be homeschooled.  Please clear invited homeschooling friends through Bonnie at bonnieadair@verizon.net.   Current ACHEV members are given priority on the sign up sheet\, ACHEV grads next\, and then guests.  Do not add any guests to the sign up sheet without approval first\, and do not share the sign up sheet outside of ACHEV. \nWe must have equal number boys and girls in order for the class to work.  We can keep a waitlist in case space opens up prior to the first class in a series.  Minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls in order to hold these classes.  Partners rotate throughout the class. \nWhere: House of Dance \, 3007 Bunsen Ave\, Ventura 93003   https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/ \nWhen: Wednesdays 4pm – 5:00 pm \nCost: $10 per student per class payable to House of Dance in advance on the first of each month.  $40 payable on September 3rd.  Pay in advance via Venmo or Zelle (info at https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/)  Or pay with cash or check when you arrive on the first Wednesday of the month.  If you pay via Venmo or Zelle\, please include a note “ACHEV Homeschool class”.  Do not send payment to ACHEV or to me (Bonnie) personally. \nWhat to Bring & Wear: Bring your own water bottles.  There is no drinking fountain.  There is no special dress code\, other than ACHEV’s general dress code for all events which is\, “modest and appropriate for the occasion”.   Some girls choose to wear dresses and skirts\, but you can wear pants or shorts.  Boys can wear pants or shorts.  Be comfortable.  If you do not have felt bottomed dance shoes (felt bottomed dance shoes are ideal)\, try to choose a shoe that is not grippy and rubbery on bottom.  Leather soled dress shoes or Vans-type skateboard shoes are okay.  Absolutely NO flip flops.  No sandals\, no Uggs.  Boots/cowboy boots/work boots are not good for ballroom or swing dancing and if you step on your partner (it happens) it will hurt a lot if you are wearing a heavy boot\, please don’t wear heavy boots.  You want to be able to slide/glide on the floor\, turn easily on your toes (sometimes on your heels) and point your toes. \nTo purchase good quality dance shoes (recommended but not required)\, go here \nPayment Policy: \nPayment for the month of classes is due in full at the beginning of the first class of the month.  There will be no refunds or credits for missed classes.  We understand that sometimes illness or unexpected circumstances come up on short notice\, but in order to keep these classes affordable\, House of Dance cannot issue refunds or credits.    If you know before a series starts that you will need to miss a class\, please check with the organizer to make sure that will be okay before signing up (it depends on a variety of factors)\, and the full amount of the series will still be due at the first class. \nNotes on Attendance: These classes are not drop-in classes.  Signing up in advance is required.  After the series has begun\, we cannot add new students.  If you sign up for a series\, your classmates are counting on you to be there for all the classes other than illness or other unavoidable/unforeseen circumstances\, because these classes are most enjoyable when everyone has a partner.  Additionally\, learning dance is sequential and if you miss too many classes\, it can be difficult to catch up and it can hold up others in the class. \nQuestions?  Bonnieadair@verizon.net or 805-504-6457 call or text. \nWe must have an even number of boys and girls.  Any girls in excess of boys\, or vice versa\, are considered to be on the waitlist.  We must have a minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls to proceed with the class. \nSign Up Here for Salsa in September 2025\nQuestions? SUMMARY:In-N-Out Field Trip

SUMMARY:Elementary PE Co-Op
DESCRIPTION:What: Please join us in engaging our elementary children in teaching them how to work as a team and develop perseverance\, good sportsmanship and friendships through physical activity.  Our goal is to choose activities that will challenge the kids a bit\, but something that they can be successful at.  Structured PE activities will be around 45-60 minutes long. Afterwards we will have optional free play. \nParents will take turns organizing/planning/leading the activities. Come prepared\, and be sure to share this with your invited guests. A good rule of thumb is if you are unsure\, change into something that clearly meets dress code. Thank you for helping us uphold the dress code.  Carefully read the dress code and etiquette below. \nBoys: \n\nCollared shirts (button-up or polo)\, long sleeve or short sleeved.\nSlacks\, NO jeans. Do not wear pants that look like jeans.  Slacks have slits for back pockets\, not sewn on pockets as jeans do.  Slacks are pressed with a crease down the front center.\nClosed toe shoes: Absolutely no flip flops\, socks or bare feet.   It is hard to dance when your shoes are super sticky/grippy on the dance floor.  If you don’t have dress/dance shoes\, Converse/Keds type shoes work OK.\n\nGirls: \n\n Skirts or dresses knee length or longer. (This means touching the top of the kneecap\, regardless of leggings.) If there is a lace overlay\, the skirt underneath (solid fabric) needs to touch the kneecap.\nSlits in skirts cannot rise above the top of the kneecap regardless of leggings underneath.  If your skirt/dress just touches the top of the knee and it has a slit in it\, it is too short.  You can stitch up a slit or use safety pins to close it up.\nLeggings or shorts are required if the skirt rises past the knees while twirling.  It’s a good idea to wear shorts or leggings under your skirts regardless of length.\nNo low-cut\, strapless\, backless\, or halter tops. No peekaboo cutouts.  Solid Straps need to be at least one inch wide.  No exposed cleavage\, midriffs or bra straps.  If you aren’t sure\, wear a cardigan over your dress.\nIf your top is sheer or see through\, you need to wear underneath solid straps that are at least one inch wide.\nGirls can wear a t-shirt under their dress or along with a skirt.\nNo pants (other than leggings under your skirt or dress).\nClosed toe shoes are recommended.  We recommend no slingback shoes.  Absolutely no flip flops\, socks\, or bare feet.  It is hard to dance when your shoes are super sticky/grippy on the dance floor.   If you don’t have dress/dance shoes\, Converse/Keds type shoes work OK.  If the girls want to wear heels\, please bring a second pair of shoes that will be more comfortable in case they need/want to remove their heels.\n\nPlease view the visual dress code: ACHEV Dress Code for Dances In General \nThank you for sharing dance etiquette with your children and invited guests. \nBasic Dance Etiquette.  Please go over this with your dancers:\nFor Boys: \n\nAsk a variety of girls to dance.  They are waiting for you to ask.\nYou may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked.\nOffer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor\nWhen the dance is over\, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance.\n\nFor Girls: \n\nIf a boy asks you to dance\, graciously accept his offer unless you need to rest or take a breather\, in which case you may say “no thank you”.  If you decline an offer to dance\, you will rest for the duration of that song.\nIf you stand with your friends in a closed circle\, it is hard and nerve wracking for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by opening up your circle.\n\nFor Both: \n\nEvery dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations.\nNot everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime.  Fortunately\, at this dance\, everyone will get a cha cha lesson to help you get started.\nA Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance.  The boys are to do the asking unless we announce a Sadie Hawkins dance.\nIf you decline an offer to dance\, that means you will be sitting out for the entire dance\nPlease listen and follow instructions during the dance lesson without too much chatting.\n\nFor Parent Chaperones: \nDuring the lesson from 7-7:30 if you are not taking the lesson\, please refrain from chatting much.  Even low voices\, when there are a lot of them\,  can get loud.  It is difficult for the teacher to compete with the additional noise. \nVolunteers Help the event run smoothly.  Please consider signing up for a volunteer help job at the dance. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Great Pacific Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:ACHEV activities\, events\, and field trips are for ACHEV students unless otherwise noted. \n \nWhat: Join us for one of my favorite field trips of the year.  We are going to the McGrath Brothers Great Pacific Pumpkin Patch.   It is in Ventura on Olivas Park Drive\, it is not the one in Camarillo. \nWe will receive an educational pumpkin/squash talk\, a hay ride on their beautiful property while we learn a bit of the history of their farm\, a visit with the animals\, and then everyone can pick out their own pumpkins.  The hay maze is also included in the field trip fee.  Children will get to pick out one small sugar pumpkin to take home (included in $7 field trip fee). \nWho: ACHEV Members all ages\, parents\, grandparents & ACHEV grads \nCost: $7 per child ages 3 and up.  $3 for every adult (pumpkin not included).  Ages 2 and under are free.   Children under 3 that do not pay $7\, do not get a sugar pumpkin included\, but you can choose and pay separately for as many additional pumpkins and squash as you like.  Bring cash with you for the field trip fees.  I will collect from everyone as you arrive and make one lump payment for our group before the field trip starts.  They take credit cards at the farm stand if you want to purchase additional pumpkins from them. \nTime: Our tour starts at 10:30.  Please arrive at 10:15 and meet me in the parking lot near the front so that I can collect cash from everyone and make payment before the tour starts.  The tour will last about 45-60 minutes\, but plan to spend a little extra time afterwards to look at their wonderful selection of pumpkins and squash that are great for eating\, decorating and carving. \nSign Up Here\nAdditional Info: \n\nThey have a wide and wonderful selection of pumpkins\, squash\, gourds\, and colorful corn available for purchase.   We have been to a lot of pumpkin patches\, and this is my favorite to purchase from.  Many years they have dried out gourds to choose from and they make a really fun art project for Halloween or Thanksgiving.\nThey are dog friendly as long as your dog stays on a leash and you clean up after it.\nBring your camera!  They have a lot of good photo ops here =)\nWear good shoes.  There is a lot of dirt and some uneven ground.  Potentially mud depending on weather.\n\n
