SUMMARY:St. Patrick's Day Park Day
DESCRIPTION:Let’s get together at the park and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a craft\, some Irish fiddle\, a St. Patrick’s Day picture book\, and lunch together. \n \nWe will meet at Camarillo Grove Park.  It’s a beautiful\, quiet park with so much room for play and exploration.  My teen son\, Maxwell\, has been playing fiddle for about 8 years and he will play an Irish fiddle tune or two for the kids.  We will bring an old student violin for the kids to try to play if they want.  My teen daughter\, Alexandria\, just started learning to play bagpipes\, so she may give a demonstration as well (we won’t be able to allow anyone else to handle the bagpipes). \nBring a picnic blanket and an Irish or green/rainbow themed snack/lunch item to share with everyone.  Your RSVP will help me plan for craft supplies.  RSVP here.  Thanks!  This is geared toward the pk-elementary crowd\, but all ACHEV members are welcome. \nPlease note: Camarillo Grove Park is an off leash dog park\, and there is a $3 parking fee. \n

SUMMARY:Mom's Night Out
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nACHEV Moms\, let’s get together for some fellowship and fun. If we aren’t careful\, it is easy to let the holidays get hectic. Take a break with your homeschool friends to hear scripture\, enjoy light refreshments\, tea/cocoa\, and let me (Susan) help you make some beautiful\, simple folded fabric Christmas ornaments. \nYou are welcome to bring your own supplies\, but I will also have supplies on hand to share. I have a fun stack of Christmas fabrics and all the tools we need to mark\, cut\, and assemble. I will have a sewing machine out\, too\, though much can be done by hand. \nIf you bring your own supplies\, this is what you’ll need for these projects: fabric (quilt cottons work well)\, scissors\, tailor’s chalk or something else to mark your fabric\, hand-sewing needles & thread\, a variety of buttons and/or beads for embellishing. I will supply the sewing machine and iron. \nAre you memorizing scripture? Do you have a scripture on your mind lately? This is optional\, but I also invite you to come with a thought or scripture to read or recite. Let this evening be an oasis for you. \nPlease RSVP so I can be sure to have enough supplies prepared. Please indicate which ornaments interest you the most so I can even have some pre-cut squares pressed and ready. \nhttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d6nuw4626KVDIWGtrU1K94xC73Nw7ns9pDlFT45WSwk/edit?usp=sharing

SUMMARY:Poverty Encounter Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:What: A group visit to Poverty Encounter. \n“An immersive\, interactive experience\, Poverty Encounter provides a unique understanding of the impact of living in poverty\, and opportunities to make a difference.” \n\nEncountering Poverty\n\n\n\n\nby Lynn Phillips\, Poverty Encounter at Children’s Hunger Fund \nHave you ever heard your children say\, “I’m starving\,” “there’s nothing to eat\,” or “I don’t like this meal!”? Do you wish your children had a greater appreciation for what they have? As a homeschool mother of four\, it pained me to hear my boys’ lack of gratitude for all the Lord had given them. One of the reasons we homeschooled was to teach our kids about who God is and that they can play a part in His plans. My husband and I wondered how we could open our children’s eyes to the abundance they had before them. \nRead the rest of this article at http://www.homeschool411.com/family/encountering-poverty/ \nWhen: Friday\, December 3rd\, 9:30-11:30 am:  Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your reservation time and check in at the Poverty Encounter entrance of the building.  Each tour is 90 minutes with a 30-minute service activity during which guests will be able to pack food for families in need.  There is a considerable amount of walking and standing throughout the experience so please dress comfortably. \nInformation from Poverty Encounter:  All guests (age 2 and older) are required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. \nCost: $7 per person ages 6 and up.  5 and under\, free.  Paid in advance.  Sales for this event will close two weeks before the event on November 22nd at Noon . This is what they ask so that they can work out scheduling in preparation for our event.   They have created a special link just for our group\, to purchase tickets online. \nTo sign up for this field trip: \,Visit this link  and purchase your tickets now.  Then\, please enter your information on this Google Sheet.  Your rsvp for this field trip is not secured until you have purchased your tickets via the link above. \n

SUMMARY:Field Trip: Riley's Farm Living History Revolutionary War Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Woo hoo!  I scheduled a field trip to the amazing Riley’s Farm!  If you haven’t heard of Riley’s Farm\, it is owned and run by a Christian family who are passionate about history and freedom.    If you want to know more about Riley’s Farm you van visit their website https://rileysfarm.com/ . \nWhat: Revolutionary War Adventure Field Trip: this is an amazing living history program.  Read all the fun details here: https://rileysfarm.com/index.php/living-history/revolutionarywar/ \nWho: All ACHEV members are welcome.  Riley’s Farm is very family and homeschool friendly.  This field trip will be fun for all ages.  This is a fun field trip to bring Grandma and Grandpa or Auntie along for\, especially if they are into history and watching your kids do homeschooley stuff =) \nTime: The field trip runs from 10am-2pm. You must arrive at least 15 minutes early\, by 9:45am.  It is a long drive so give yourself plenty of time to arrive and account for traffic.  You will want to have time to visit the restroom before we start and maybe place a pie order for later.  I am going to need some time to check everyone in and make sure everyone has their stickers showing what group they belong to.  The drive is admittedly very long (but very much worth it)\, so please leave early enough to allow time for traffic or other unforeseen delays. \nHow Much: $20 per person\, including adults.  Babies/toddlers 2 years old and younger are free.  If they are 3 and over\, they need a ticket.  This is a significant discount per person for registering as a group of 30+.  I need at least 30 people paid by 10/28/21 to make this happen.  I have to sign a contract and personally guarantee payment as well as make a deposit\, so I have to collect payment in advance from everyone by October 28th.  They will only adjust 10% of the total price for no-shows/cancellations after that date\, which depending on our numbers\, will mean that I can only afford to refund maybe 3 tickets if there are no-shows or last minute cancellations. You can send a check to Bonnie Adair at 174 Granada Street\, Camarillo\, CA 93010\, meet up with me in person and give me cash or check\, send me $ via Zelle \, or Paypal me at https://paypal.me/bonniemaeadair?locale.x=en_US \nWhere: 12261 S. Oak Glen Rd.\, Oak Glen\, CA 92399 ***GPS Databases are often wrong for the farm\, please use their directions https://rileysfarm.com/index.php/map/ \nLunch: There is a “soldier’s ration of lemonade\, cornbread\, cheese\, an apple and dried beef provided for everyone\, but the ration is modest (especially if you have a teenage boy)\, so you will probably want to either pack some extra food\, or you can buy food from the bakery.  Their food and pies are really good\, by the way\, and I highly recommend them =)  I always buy an extra whole apple pie and whole chicken pot pie to take home for the next day.  Such a treat!  Also\, they recommend you order ahead of time (you can order online or on-site in the morning when we arrive. Here is the most current menu and should be a close idea of what will be available https://rileysfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/cc_menu_2wide_web.jpg \nMisc: This field trip is outdoors.  Please check the weather ahead of time\, wear layers\, bring hats and sunscreen\, extra water and snacks\, and be prepared for a long day. \nSign Up: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tt_HyUm7isW5EyApEPycJUd5v9QiW8M0DDIcV_6n3og/edit#gid=0 \nPlease email me if you have any questions\, or need help signing up. \nThanks\, \nBonnie Adair \n805-504-6457 \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Homeschooling the Middle and High School Years
DESCRIPTION:Homeschooling the Middle and High School Years\, November 10\, 2021\, 6:30 – 9 pm \nThis meeting is open to the community\, led by ACHEV mom and homeschool coach\, Keary DeVico. \nOur last meeting was so fun – let’s do it again! This time we will focus on homeschooling older kids. Learn how to transition to being their coach/mentor in your homeschool\, and how to engage them in their talents with an eye toward launching them after high school. In my opinion\, the most exciting and rewarding age to homeschool is high schoolers! So be encouraged and come share some coffee and dessert. Bring your questions\, and let’s talk big picture and nuts and bolts about homeschooling this age group. \nAre you homeschooling middle or high schoolers and feeling overwhelmed or unsure how to guide them? Do you have questions on how to navigate their future including their post-graduation plans? Come join us for dessert and coffee and let’s discuss how to launch these older kids into their bright futures. Anyone with kids upper elementary and older are welcome to join us! Text me (Keary) for the location and to RSVP 805-200-7870.

SUMMARY:Nature Hike & Play Date
DESCRIPTION:What: Hey moms of littles\, let’s get together at Camarillo Grove Park for some nature play.  We’ll meet in the nature center gazebo (as long as it’s available) and start with a short picture book.  Then we’ll go on a hike at a comfortable pace for the younger kids\, giving them time to pick up rocks and sticks and whatever else they are interested in.  Camarillo Grove has a great trail that is fun\, short\, and just enough of an incline to make it interesting.  It will take 30+ minutes to finish the hike.  We can stop at play around the boulders for a little while\, and then the hike ends at the nature center.   We can eat lunch\, play on the new playground\, and I will bring a simple nature/fall inspired craft. \nIf you have teens\, like I do\, they can have fun at this park also.  A mature group of teens can hike the trail on their own for exercise\, and bring the family dog.  My older kids like climbing the boulders – there are some big ones and it’s pretty fun.  Does anyone have horseshoes?  They have horseshoe pits at this park – that might be fun for the teens.  Let me know if your teens want to come and keep mine company and get some exercise in. \nWhere: Camarillo Grove Park.  The property for Camarillo Grove Park was donated by Adolfo Camarillo.   It is a former stagecoach stop\, and home to the oldest tree in the district.  This park is beautiful and we just love exploring here.   https://www.pvrpd.org/camarillo-grove-park \nCost: There is a $3 parking fee\, and there is nowhere to park to avoid the fee. \nBring: Your picnic lunch and leave it in the car for after the hike.   Comfortable clothes\, tennis shoes\, hats\, layers and sunscreen.   Kids can bring nature journals\, magnifying glasses\, binoculars\, or anything else that they think will be fun to bring for exploring. \nNote: Please be aware that this is an off-leash dog park.  Dogs are not allowed inside the gated nature center at all\, and dogs must be on a leash on the trails (but that doesn’t mean that everyone leashes their dogs on the trail).  Dogs are allowed to be off-leash everywhere else inside the park. \nRSVP is appreciated =)  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gG5yTSczGz3WouTjxx3C6SB1i6ji9itAnnXXS–7H6w/edit?usp=sharing \n

SUMMARY:Homeschool Haven
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool Haven is a space reserved at Encounter Church for ACHEV small groups\, special guests\, and interesting projects\, just as last year. We will continue to abide by whatever the public health department requires of the church. We have been granted Sep2021-May2022. This is facilitated by Susan Pineda\, but she will not be leading every meeting. Watch for notices throughout the year for what’s happening at Homeschool Haven. \nWe have mornings from about 10am – noon. Some groups may choose to use only an hour\, so there may be a couple of fun things happening any given day. Please read the information for each meeting before you commit. If your plans change\, please update your RSVP accordingly so others may participate. Thank you. \nTentative plans – subject to change!\nBeginning September 17\, Susan Pineda will teach beginning and intermediate knitting and crochet using small autumn theme projects. \nOctober 29\, 2021 – The Christian Fellowship Brass Quartet will give a mini-concert and teach us about their instruments. This was a great hit last year. We are excited to have them back! For this date only\, we get to meet in the PLEX auditorium! \nNovember/December – Let’s make folded fabric Christmas ornaments! \n \n  \nJanuary/February: How about we learn to quilt with small projects? As we approach Valentine’s Day\, we can make quilted heart prayer pockets. Using this project\, we can learn a quilt-as-you-go technique with strips of fabric\, efficient ways to do patchwork\, and how to use a rotary cutter. February\, we have set aside as a history day! Let’s learn about the underground railroad\, how quilts were part of this history\, and begin working on the historic underground railroad quilt block. This block is a good size for a hot pad. With this project\, we can learn most of the skills needed to make a full size quilt! \n \n  \nMarch/April/May – Share your ideas with me! Perhaps macramé? \nYes! We’re aiming to make macramé keychains March 11\, led by ACHEV student Gianna Calisin. We can do a small group of up to 4 students. This is best suited for age ten and older\, but motivated and dexterous younger students are welcome at the discretion of the parents. Parents stay to help. \n \nGreat news! 4/22/2022 Monica Spooner is going to demonstrate spinning! She will demonstrate and teach drop spindle and spinning wheel. This is hands-on learn about history\, fiber\, and creating yarn. Please RSVP so we can be prepared with enough supplies. Thank you. \nLast meeting is May 27. We will make patriotic pinwheels\, have a party\, and circulate a Thank You card for the church. This will be an opportunity to include a donation to the church to help thank them for letting us use this space all year! \nQuestions? Contact Susan Pineda at must_sew@yahoo.com or 805-407-6851. \nTo RSVP: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XE_vf-793p5phK4HoqRKgC45XuTiQutvz5lPKnTRVgM/edit?usp=sharing
