SUMMARY:Ballroom Dance: Nightclub Two Step Lessons
DESCRIPTION:What: Private ballroom dance classes for ACHEV at House of Dance – Lesson for 45 minutes\, dance practice to music for 15 minutes.  This is an 8-class series taking place on Wednesdays April 3\, 10\, 17\, 24 and May 1\, 8\, 15\, 22.  We will start at the beginning level.  If you would like to join this class\, you need to start with us on April 3.  We will not be able to add new people once the series has begun. \nIn April & May\, we will be learning Nightclub Two Step: Nightclub Two Step was developed in the 1960s by a 15-year-old West Coast Swing dancer from Whitaker\, Illinois named Buddy Schwimmer. Buddy Schwimmer invented the dance in 1965. He developed the Nightclub Two Step while practicing with his sister as he searched for a way to popularize slow ballad music. He noticed that during their high school parties\, most of his friends stood still and shuffled in place when slow\, romantic songs played. He felt there was a need for a more interesting alternative to dancing to slow music so he created a dance called the Night Club Two Step. When Buddy opened a dance studio in Costa Mesa\, California years later in 1978\, he began teaching the Nightclub Two Step that can still be found in ballrooms and night clubs today.   \nThe Nightclub Two Step is a great alternative for dancers who want to go beyond a simple slow dance with their partner. It’s a great dance to learn how to dance to slow music. It is often used to compete as a country dance\, but it is also danced to easy listening\, smooth jazz\, and R&B music. Today\, the Nightclub Two Step can be danced as a stationary dance\, a dance that travels around the dance floor in the line of dance\, or a combination of the two.  More Fun Facts about Nightclub Two Step \nWho: ACHEV members\, grads & guests 11 and up.  ACHEV Members can invite guests: guests do not need to be ACHEV members\, but need to be homeschooled.  Please clear invited homeschooling friends through Bonnie at bonnieadair@verizon.net.   Current ACHEV members are given priority on the sign up sheet\, ACHEV grads next\, and then guests.  ACHEV members\, sign up asap because I will start adding grads and guests as I see space available\, or a need to fill spots.  We must have equal number boys and girls in order for the class to work.  We can keep a waitlist in case space opens up prior to the first class in a series.  Minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls in order to hold these classes.  Partners rotate throughout the class. \nWhere: House of Dance \, 3007 Bunsen Ave\, Ventura 93003   https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/ \nWhen: Wednesdays 4pm – 5:00 pm \nCost: $40 per student per month\, payable by 4/3 & 5/1.    Pay in advance via Venmo or Zelle (info at https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/)  Or pay with cash or check when you arrive on those dates.  If you pay via Venmo or Zelle\, please include a note “ACHEV Homeschool class” \nWhat to Bring & Wear: Bring your own water bottles.  There is no drinking fountain.  There is no special dress code\, other than ACHEV’s general dress code for all events which is\, “modest and appropriate for the occasion”.   Some girls choose to wear dresses and skirts\, but you can wear pants or shorts.  Boys can wear pants or shorts.  Be comfortable.  If you do not have felt bottomed dance shoes (felt bottomed dance shoes are ideal)\, try to choose a shoe that is not grippy and rubbery on bottom.  Leather soled dress shoes or Vans-type skateboard shoes are okay.  Absolutely NO flip flops.  No sandals\, no Uggs.  Boots are not good for ballroom or swing dancing.  You want to be able to slide/glide on the floor\, turn easily on your toes and point your toes. \nPayment Policy: \nPayment for each series is due in full at the beginning of the first class of the month.  There will be no refunds or credits for missed classes.  We understand that sometimes illness or unexpected circumstances come up on short notice\, but in order to keep these classes affordable\, House of Dance cannot issue refunds or credits.    If you know before a series starts that you will need to miss a class\, please check with the organizer to make sure that will be okay before signing up (it depends on a variety of factors)\, and the full amount of the series will still be due at the first class. \nThese classes are not drop-in classes.  Signing up in advance is required.  If you sign up for a series\, your classmates are counting on you to be there for all the classes other than illness or other unavoidable/unforeseen circumstances\, because these classes are most enjoyable when everyone has a partner.  Additionally\, learning dance is sequential and if you are not able to attend the first class\, or will have to miss more than one class\, it can be difficult to catch up and it can hold up others in the class. \nIf you have special circumstances\, please feel free to talk to me about it!  Considering this is a 3 month class\, it is more likely there might be a conflict with a family trip or something of that nature.  If you have to miss one or two\, it might be ok\, but please check with me first if you know you will be gone for a class or two.  Bonnieadair@verizon.net or 805-504-6457 call or text. \nWe must have an even number of boys and girls.  Any girls in excess of boys\, or vice versa\, are considered to be on the waitlist.  We must have a minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls to proceed with the class. \nSign Up Here for Nightclub Two Step April & May 2024\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Volleyball Clinic/Games
DESCRIPTION:Mr. Kevin Adair is out of town for this week.  Maxwell Adair (ACHEV Grad) will be in charge of the volleyball games and Mrs. April Ramirez is the parent supervising for this week.  Please contact April if you have questions regarding volleyball for today.  559-736-7684 aramirez174@yahoo.com\nACHEV Dad\, Kevin Adair hosts this volleyball clinic for ACHEV kids 10 and up.  The kids play volleyball games from 2pm-3pm.  At 3pm\, they sometimes continue playing volleyball for another hour\, and sometimes they choose to get a different game going.   We continue playing through the year\, and if you log enough hours\, you can count this for High School credit. \nThis is for fun\, exercise\, and to learn how to play the game\, this is not hyper competitive.  Kevin would love to do drilling and teach the kids more technique if they want to learn.  So if you want to get better at serving\, setting\, etc. ask Mr. Adair to help you. \nWho: ACHEV kids ages 10 and up.  You don’t have to know how to play\, Mr. Adair will teach you. \nDrop off is okay for this event.  If you are dropping off\, please make sure we have your cell number in case we need to reach you. \nWe start at 2\, and it’s really helpful if everyone gets there about the same time. \nPlease rsvp via email bonnieadair@verizon.net and make sure I have your email address and cell number in case I need to reach you. \nBonnie 805-504-6457 \nKevin 805-906-0520

SUMMARY:Elementary PE Group
DESCRIPTION:3/15 – this meeting is at PV Fields playground https://www.pvrpd.org/pleasant-valley-fields \nWhat: Please join us in engaging our younger elementary children in teaching them how to work as a team and develop perseverance\, good sportsmanship and friendships through physical activity.  Our goal is to choose activities that will challenge the kids a bit\, but something that they can be successful at.  Structured PE activities will be 30 minutes long and not more than 45 minutes. Afterwards we will have optional free play. \nParents will take turns organizing/planning/leading the activities and do a different activity every month. If you need equipment\, reach out to the other parents or ACHEVmoms on Facebook to see if it can be obtained/borrowed for free\, or come up with another idea that doesn’t require equipment you don’t have.  We are not expecting anyone to spend $$ on equipment.  Some examples: Relay races\, duck duck goose/Simon Says/Red light-Green Light\, trash can basketball\, Capture the Flag\, Freeze Tag/Blob tag\, dodgeball\, jump rope games\, push up games\, track and field games\, etc. \nWho: ACHEV members under 10 and parents.  ACHEV members over 10 are welcome to come and help the younger kids with the activities\, sit and watch\, or go play volleyball with the ACHEV volleyball group at Pitts Ranch.  Drop off is ok for ACHEV volleyball (please see calendar for details on volleyball). \nElementary PE is not a drop off event\, and parents should be available and willing to help their children through the activities\, giving assistance and encouragement as needed. \nElementary PE is a co-op\, but will remain open for ACHEV members to join us any time. Please consider joining us regularly and helping plan activities.   We need to have a core group of people that intend to prioritize this activity on their calendar.  The dates for the whole school year are printed below and all dates are also on the ACHEV calendar. All Fridays.  We will meet at Pitts Ranch Park with the exception of two dates that we anticipate will be at PV Fields (Camarillo).  Details will be kept up to date on the calendar.  Please email or text Bonnie Adair 805-504-6457 bonnieadair@verizon.net if you are interested in joining us.  We need to know how many children will be present in order to help with activity planning. \n\n\n\n9/29/23\n\n\n\n10/13/23\nPV Fields\n\n\n10/27/23\n\n\n\n11/10/23\n\n\n\n12/1/23\n\n\n\n12/15/23\n\n\n\n1/19/24\n\n\n\n2/2/24\n\n\n\n2/16/24\n\n\n\n3/1/24\n\n\n\n3/15/24\nPV Fields\n\n\n4/19/24\n\n\n\n5/3/2024\n\n\n\n5/24/2024\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:The ACHEV Fine Arts Festival is back!  This year it will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday\, March 9th at Temple Avenue Baptist Church in Camarillo.  The Arts Festival is a wonderful time for our students to share their God-given talents.  This is a non-judged activity\, designed to appreciate the talents of our ACHEV homeschool community.  Due to time constraints\, we may need to limit the number of activities per person (i.e.\, 2 solo events) depending on how many entries we receive. \nWe’ve had an amazing response in the past with such creative entries as comedic skits\, dance\, bands\, mime\, poetry reading\, excerpts from plays\, films\, instrumental solos (piano\, guitar\, harp\, violin…)\, vocal solos\, photography\, drawings\, sewing\, knitting\, models and more.  This is a great opportunity to recognize and encourage the hard work that goes into developing these life-enriching skills. \nWe ask that all performing and fine art be appropriate for families with young children and glorifying to God. When our families come together as a group\, we hope to create an atmosphere that allows for consideration and grace. \nValues we trust every ACHEV family to embrace are: \n\nArtist/performer – Personal opinions and freedoms can and should at times be humbly set aside temporarily for the sake of the community. A good rule of thumb is if you have any concern it might offend\, chose something safer to perform/create/wear. Remember all ages may be present\, and ask yourself\, “Will it honor God?”\, and “Will it bless those who hear and see?”\nAudience – There is a time and place to graciously make allowances for the differing opinions about what is appropriate to perform/create/wear. Since this event serves our entire membership\, we can expect our diverse community to be just that: diverse. That is part of the beauty of community. We offer benefit of the doubt that each participant sincerely desires to honor God and bless those who hear and see.\n\n_____________________________________________________________________________________ \nPlease fill out your submission forms no later than Friday February 23rd.  There is a good deal of planning that needs to be done ahead of the event to coordinate all the performances\, create and print the program\, etc.  If you can submit your form earlier\, that is very helpful.  We will not be accepting submissions after the deadline.  You must submit a separate form for each piece of artwork and each performance.  Visual Arts need to be dropped off no later than Sunday February 25th (form is still required by Feb 23rd). \nTo make this event happen\, we need all parents to volunteer.  We are asking every family to bring a plate of cookies/finger-snacks to share AND to volunteer for one of the jobs listed in the Google Form linked below.  We will contact you before the festival to let you know what your job will be.  Thank you for all of your help! \nClick on the forms below to sign up!\nVolunteer Form (required for all families) \nVisual Arts Entry Form \nPerforming Arts Entry Form \nPlease drop off your fine art no later than Sunday February 25th. \nCamarillo Art Drop Off: \nHolly Larson: 1670 Birchspring Walk\, Camarillo\, CA 93012  Call or text to arrange drop off 805-302-9045.  Porch drop off. \nVentura Art Drop Off:   \nVanessa Espinoza:10926 Telegraph Rd. Apt 104\, Ventura\, CA 93004  Call or text to arrange drop off 805-443-1738 \n\nPlease help us make the fine arts presentation beautiful and honor your child’s artwork by putting it in a frame.  You can borrow a frame from something else in your house\, buy used from the thrift store\, or reach out on ACHEV members facebook page and ask to borrow something.  If it is a stretched canvas\, a frame is not needed.\n

SUMMARY:Tracking: Wilderness Skills Outdoor Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Hello Everyone.  There’s a lot of information here\, so please read it all.  (Also since there is a lot of info here\, please let me know if it looks like I might have made a mistake somewhere).  The information at the beginning is general information for all of the outings\,  and towards the bottom I will add more specific  details for each outing as the information becomes available.  The specifics of each outing can’t be known too far in advance because things depend on weather and what nature is providing at the time (water availability\, natural plant availability which depends on rainfall\, etc).  These outings are being led by “Tracker Rob”\, and tracking animals is his specialty\, but he has many survival skills and a love for nature that he enjoys sharing.  There are many exciting skills to learn\, and we will start on Feb 15 with a survival skills basics outing\, which will be followed by going more in depth into skills such as animal tracking\, shelter making\, and edible and medicinal plants.   Make sure to include your email address when you sign up.  Please contact me (Bonnie) with questions first.  I will be the main point of contact for the outings. \n\nDear Parent or Guardian: \nWelcome and thank you for your interest in attending my Nature Connection/Outdoor Education outings.  Many exciting nature and outdoor skills topics and activities are planned for the Spring 2024 season\, February – May.  As you know\, Bonnie Adair is organizing and your child/children have been invited to attend.  The following information lists what you’ll need for your child/children to enroll in these outings. \nThe outing dates reserved for SPRING 2024 (February – May) are: \n   February 15  (Thurs)       March 7 (Thurs)         March 28  (Thurs)      April 29 (Mon)  May 16 (Thurs) \n  The Fee for attending each outing is:  $ 60.00 per child per outing. \nParents are invited to attend\, at no charge\, and are very much welcome. SUMMARY:Joni & Friends Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:What: Please join us for a tour of the amazing non-profit Christian organization\, Joni and Friends.    Learn about the history of Joni and Friends\, our current work around the world\, and meet our staff! \n    Since 1979 Joni and Friends has committed to reaching and serving people with disabilities with practical help and the saving love of Jesus. \n    The Joni and Friends International Disability Center in Agoura Hills\, California serves as the administrative hub for ministry programs around the world. With every wheelchair and Bible delivered\, every retreat and respite event held\, and every church mobilized to integrate and honor people with disabilities\, Joni and Friends follows the call of Jesus found in Luke 14:“Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor\, the crippled\, the blind\, and the lame.… Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in\, so that my house will be full” (Luke 14:21\, 23\, NIV). \nIf you aren’t familiar with this wonderful ministry\, check out their website: https://joniandfriends.org/about/ \nOptional lunch/park play date at local Reyes Adobe Park after the tour.  31400 Rainbow Crest Dr\, Agoura Hills\, CA 91301.  Let me know if you plan to join us for that. \nCost: Free.  No suggested donation\, but as a non-profit organization\, they do value donations. \nService Opportunity: You can make gospel bracelets before the field trip and bring them with you to donate to their ministry.  Here are instructions! \nGospel_Bracelet_Instructions_2022 \nWho: ACHEV members.  All ages and parents are welcome\, but be aware that tour is geared to ages 7 and up.  Younger children may become bored and will need to be closely supervised by parents and taken aside if they become a distraction.   Joni & Friends prefers that younger children are left at home if possible\, but they do not expect that parents will be able to hire babysitters and do not want to hinder families from attending due to childcare issues.  Babes in arms are welcome\, and the facility is stroller & wheelchair friendly. \nSign Up: We can have a maximum of 40 kids and parents attending. They need a head count ASAP.  I gave them an estimated number of 20-30.  Our final roster is due two weeks in advance\, but if we expect fewer than 20 or more than 30\, they would really like to have more than two weeks notice.  The deadline is January 3rd\, but signing up much earlier is very helpful.   \nSign up on the sign up sheet HERE  Please make sure to list all attendees on the sign up sheet including all parents and babies. \nWhere to Meet/Directions: Exit 101 fwy at Reyes adobe.  There are 2 buildings.  Come up driveway and continue past the first building keep turning left (3 left turns to get up the driveway).  There is signage that should help us find the correct location. Park in the parking lot or along the side of the building.  We will meet inside the building.  You can go in the front door and see the receptionist.  I’ll try to be the first one there. \n  \n

SUMMARY:West Coast Swing Lessons 12 week series
DESCRIPTION:What: Private ballroom dance classes for ACHEV at House of Dance – Lesson for 45 minutes\, dance practice to music for 15 minutes.  This is a 12-class series taking place on Wednesdays Jan: 10\, 17\, 24\, 31 Feb: 7\, 14\, 21\, 28 Mar: 6\, 13\, 20\, 27.  We will start at the beginning level.  If you would like to join this class\, you need to start with us on January 10th.  We will not be able to add new people once the series has begun. \n \nWest Coast Swing is a really fun dance where you can learn to add your own personality and flair to it.  It is quite different from the other dances we have learned and it will take a little more time to master it.  Please consider joining us\, because it will be well worth the effort.   \nModern West Coast Swing is not dependent on the music genre and can be danced to any music in 4/4 tempo. The basic music for West Coast Swing is generally the Blues\, which offers a rhythm with swung eighth notes. Dancers today often enjoy swing dancing to the slower rhythms of Funk\, Disco\, Jazz\, Motown\, Techno\, Soul\, and Pop\, in addition to getting down to the upbeat rhythms of Country\, Big Band Swing\, Oldies\, Rock ‘n Roll\, Retro and sometimes Latin music. Read More \nWho: ACHEV members\, grads & guests 11 and up. ACHEV members\, sign up asap because I will start adding grads and guests beginning 12/6 .  We must have equal number boys and girls in order for the class to work.  We can keep a waitlist in case space opens up prior to the first class in a series.  Minimum of 4 boys and 4 girls in order to hold these classes.  Partners rotate throughout the class. \nWhere: House of Dance \, 3007 Bunsen Ave\, Ventura 93003   https://www.pmhouseofdance.com/ \nWhen: Wednesdays 4pm – 5:00 pm \nCost: $40 per student per month\, payable 1/10\, 2/7 & 3/6. If you do not have felt bottomed dance shoes\, try to choose a shoe that is not grippy and rubbery on bottom like a basketball shoe.  Leather soled dress shoes or Vans-type skateboard shoes are okay.  Absolutely NO flip flops.  No sandals\, no Uggs. \nSign Up Here For West Coast Swing Jan-March\nQuestions?
