SUMMARY:Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:ACHEV activities\, events\, and field trips are for ACHEV students unless otherwise noted. \n \nWhat: Join us for one of my favorite field trips of the year.  We are going to the Great Pacific Pumpkin Patch.   It is in Ventura on Olivas Park Drive\, it is not the one in Camarillo. \nWe will receive an educational pumpkin/squash talk\, a hay ride on their beautiful property while we learn a bit of the history of their farm\, a visit with the animals\, and then everyone can pick out their own pumpkins.  The hay maze is also included in the field trip fee.  Children will get to pick out one small sugar pumpkin to take home (included in $7 field trip fee). \nWho: ACHEV Members all ages\, parents & grandparents \nCost: $7 per child ages 3 and up.  $3 for every adult (pumpkin not included).  Ages 2 and under are free.   Children under 3 that do not pay $7\, do not get a sugar pumpkin included\, but you can choose and pay separately for as many additional pumpkins and squash as you like.  They take credit cards at the farm stand if you want to purchase additional pumpkins from them. \nTime: Our tour starts at 10:15.  Please arrive at 10:05 and go to the entrance to pay the field trip fees individually.  We will gather under the shade cloth near the entrance after you pay.  The tour will last about 45-60 minutes\, but plan to spend a little extra time afterwards to look at their wonderful selection of pumpkins and squash that are great for eating\, decorating and carving. \nSign Up Here by October 14th.\nAdditional Info: \n\nThey have a wide and wonderful selection of pumpkins\, squash\, gourds\, and colorful corn available for purchase.   We have been to a lot of pumpkin patches\, and this is my favorite to purchase from.  Many years they have dried out gourds to choose from and they make a really fun art project for Halloween or Thanksgiving.\nThey are dog friendly as long as your dog stays on a leash and you clean up after it.\nBring your camera!  They have a lot of good photo ops here =)\nWear good shoes.  There is a lot of dirt and some uneven ground.  Potentially mud depending on weather.\n\n

SUMMARY:Moxi Museum Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:ACHEV activities\, events\, and field trips are for ACHEV students unless otherwise noted. \nPlease join us for a fun field trip to the Moxi Museum in Santa Barbara.  This is a fun interactive science museum.  This is a self guided tour.  We have freedom to explore the museum in small groups.  It is a fun place to play and learn! \nWhen: Monday November 2\, 2026 \nTime: 10am (please arrive 15 minutes early to check in) \nWho:  ACHEV members\, all ages \nPricing: \n\nStudent Admission (ages 2+): $10\nInfants Under age 2 are free\nOptional Lab: Additional $10 – I need to know ASAP if anyone and what grade levels are interested in this option.  We need a minimum number of 10 students in a close grade range (pk-2\, 3rd-5th\, 6th-8th) to be able to add this on and I need to know before 10/19.  Labs are 50 minutes.  They limit the number adults permitted in the lab.  See lab choices here.\nChaperones: Free up to a 1:5 ratio (the first parents to sign up will have priority.  All other parents will need to pay $18)\nAdditional Chaperones: $18  (this is the group rate discount for adults\, general admission is $25)\n\nRSVP:  Sign up on the google doc by 10/18/26.  **I have already paid a deposit for this field trip and we need a minimum of 10 students in order to make it happen.  If I don’t see at least 10 students on the sign up sheet by 10/1/26\, I will need to consider canceling to get my deposit back.\nHere are some field trip guidelines for your upcoming trip: \nAll our exhibits are hands-on and interactive because MOXI is a place for exploration and discovery! Because of this\, our field trips are self-guided with floor staff “MOXI Sparks” available to assist. \nField trips typically spend about 90 minutes in the museum and have access to the entire museum. They may require us to split up into three groups. \nFood and Drink: Please have your students leave their backpacks and water bottles in the car. We do not have any area within the museum for field trips to eat lunch. Most of our field trips that bring lunches\, eat at the grassy area right next to MOXI or walk down to the sitting wall at the beach. \nParking:  Most visitors park in the train station parking lot (right next to MOXI). The first 75 minutes are free and every additional hour is $3.00. There is limited free street parking nearby. Additional parking can be found in any of the nearby Santa Barbara city lots. \nAddress:   125 State Street\, Santa Barbara\, CA 93101 \nMuseum Phone: 805.770.5000 \nWeb: moxi.org   |   @MOXIsb

SUMMARY:Sacred Harp Singing
DESCRIPTION:LIMITED SPACE! If you are interested\, please email Allyson at allysonplumberg@gmail.com\n  \n\n  \nACHEV Mom\, Allyson Plumberg\, is leading monthly Sacred Harp singings at her home in Camarillo. Sacred Harp is a form of a cappella worship music that uses “shape notes”\, and has its roots in the early American church. The music has a distinctively raw style and sound. Check out this brief intro video to Sacred Harp music. \nGenerous donors from the Sacred Harp community gifted Allyson with 16 copies of the new 2025 Sacred Harp book for the purpose of growing Sacred Harp music within her homeschool community! \nNo previous music ability necessary! You are welcome to come try it out if you’re on the fence. Plan on committing to the group for the year if you want to participate beyond that. \n  \nWhat: About an hour of basic instruction reading shape notes and singing from the Sacred Harp. Allyson will help break down the parts as needed. We will review songs from previous months\, learn a new song or two each session—and most importantly—enjoy worshiping together! \nOptional: After singing\, we can walk over to the Pleasant Valley Soccer Field park (2 min walk) and let the kids play for a bit afterwards. Looking at about 1.5 hrs total\, including park time. \nWho: ACHEV Members of all ages (moms and dads too)! We have toys for little ones who may not be ready to sing yet. \nWhen:  2nd Monday of every month at 9:30 – 10:30 am. If you join us for the park afterwards\, we will wrap that up around 11/11:15 am. \nWhere: Located near the Camarillo YMCA. Exact address will be provided upon RSVP to Allyson at allysonplumberg@gmail.com \n  \nTo view this class & others\, please visit the ACHEV Groups Wishlist 2026-2027.\n  \n

SUMMARY:ACHEV Homeschool Career Symposium
DESCRIPTION:*ACHEV activities\, events\, and field trips are for ACHEV students unless otherwise noted. * \nTHE MANY PATHS TO SUCCESS\nACHEV HOMESCHOOL CAREER SYMPOSIUM\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND? \nThe Career Symposium is designed specifically for: \n\nACHEV high school students & their parents\nACHEV grads\n(Mature 8th graders OK)\n\nWe encourage students and parents to attend together so families can explore career possibilities\, ask questions\, and discuss potential pathways for life after high school. (This is a special event for high school students\, we ask that you please leave younger siblings at home) \n\nSuccess doesn’t look the same for everyone. What comes after high school? For some students\, the answer may be a four-year college degree. For others\, it may be a trade school\, certification program\, apprenticeship\, entrepreneurship\, or entering the workforce directly. \nThe purpose of the ACHEV Career Symposium is to introduce our students to real professionals from a variety of career fields and educational backgrounds\, helping them discover possibilities and understand that there are many pathways to a successful and fulfilling career. Our goal is not to tell students what they should become. Our goal is to help them discover what is possible. \n\nWe are seeking individuals within the ACHEV community who are willing to share their career journey with our students. We are specifically looking for professionals in three categories: \n\nCOLLEGE EDUCATION (Careers that typically require a college degree.)\nTRADE SCHOOL / CERTIFICATION (Careers that typically require trade school\, technical training\, certification\, apprenticeship\, or specialized education.)\nHIGH SCHOOL / ENTREPRENEURSHIP (Careers that can be entered with a high school education\, on-the-job training\, or through entrepreneurship.)\n\n  \nWe want students to see that every pathway has value-and that success can be found in many different forms. Each speaker will have approximately five minutes to introduce students to their career. Speakers will be given a standardized set of questions to help guide their presentation. \n\nQ&A AND CAREER CONNECTION \nAfter the 12 speakers have presented\, students\, parents\, and presenters will gather for approximately 45 minutes of light refreshments and informal conversation. \nThis will give students the opportunity to: \n\nAsk follow-up questions\nMeet presenters personally\nLearn more about careers that caught their interest\nMake connections with professionals\nDiscuss education and training pathways\n\nThis informal portion is an important part of the symposium because a five-minute presentation may spark an interest that leads to a much deeper conversation. \n\nWHY THIS MATTERS \nCollege is a wonderful pathway for some students-but it isn’t the only pathway to success. Trades are valuable. Certifications are valuable. Entrepreneurship is valuable. College is valuable. Careers are worthwhile in their various forms. We want our students to leave understanding that their future does not have to fit into one predetermined mold. By meeting real people who have taken different paths\, students can begin to see possibilities they may never have considered. \nSUCCESS HAS MANY PATHS. \n\nACHEV FIRST! \nMy goal is to utilize the incredible experience and diversity already present within the ACHEV community before reaching outside of our group. If you have a career that fits one of the three categories above-or if you know someone within ACHEV who would be a great speaker-we would love to hear from you! \nIf you are unable to participate as a speaker but would like to help make the event a success\, please sign up to bring light refreshments on the sign-up sheet. This is a great way to contribute! \nSIGN UP HERE!
