SUMMARY:Glass Bottom Boat Tour- Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:What: View Morro Bay above water and below from our semi-submersible vessel. See schools of fish\, jellyfish and kelp\, from inside the boat! From above deck\, see our local sea otter\, harbor seal and sea lion populations.  We’ll have a private educational tour that includes the history of Morro Rock.  45-60 minute tour. \nTime: TBD  I am aiming for a tour at 11am (earliest)\, 12pm\, 1pm\, or 2pm (latest).  I have contacted the company already and ensured availability\, but I need another family or two committed to joining the tour before I actually book it.  We should be able to get the time that we want\, so if you have a preference please tell me. \nWho: ACHEV Families\, including non- ACHEV siblings\, grandparents\, aunts/uncles\, etc. \nCost: $15-$20 per person .  A private tour is $300 with a maximum of 21 people.  If we fill the boat\, it works out to about $15 per person.  I will need to collect $ in advance and will contact you to arrange that after you sign up. \nMorro Bay is a beautiful place to take a day trip and the closest place that I am aware of that you can view sea otters in the wild.  There are so many fun things to do there.  Some activities I hope to include in our day (optional) is a visit to the Morro Bay natural History Museum https://www.morrobay.org/listing/morro-bay-state-park-museum-of-natural-history/15568/  If others are interested\, I can contact them to see if i can book a docent led tour/field trip either before or after our sub sea tour.  Another great place to visit if you are studying sea creatures this year\, is the Elephant Seals in San Simeon   The viewing point is 40 minutes North of Morro Bay.  it is not the peak time to see large populations\, so before deciding to visit here\, I would call to see what the likelihood of seeing elephant seals is.  I am also thinking about renting kayaks and kayaking around the harbor – when my husband and I did this a long time ago\, we were actually kayaking alongside sea otters. \nSign Up Here\n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Nature Track Field Trip to Gaviota State Park
DESCRIPTION:What: Field Trip with Nature Track to Gaviota State Park (not beach).  Emphasis: Plants and animals\, habitats\, human use of the land\, natives. \nSpecially trained naturalists\, who enjoy sharing their knowledge and love of the outdoors with students\, lead NatureTrack adventures.  “The not-for-profit NatureTrack advocates the educational approach of noted author and educator David Sobel that fosters a child’s love of the earth while also developing a child’s academic and social competence. David Sobel’s most recent book “Place-Based Education: Connecting Classrooms & Communities” offers scientific and anecdotal evidence that placed-based education is successfully meeting\, and in many cases surpassing\, the various standards and mandates that are increasingly a part of educational reform in this country.” \nYou can read more about NatureTrack here \nWho: All ACHEV Members.  This field trip is geared towards K-8\, but younger and older siblings are welcome. \nCost: Free \nWhere: We will be at Gaviota State Park\, not the beach.  Exact meetup location details will be given was we get closer to the field trip date. \nWaivers must be completed at least one week in advance\, scanned and emailed to Monica Zamora at monicazam@gmail.com \nWaiver in English \nWaiver en Espanol \nSign Up Sheet Here\nAdditional Details: \n\nWe will be splitting up into two groups so that the docents can give plenty of attention to each student.\n We will be eating lunch on the trail\, as I understand it.  They ask that each student has their own backpack with two water bottles and lunch.   Just make sure you bring enough food and water for yourself and your kids with you on the walk – if you want to carry it all\, or have your kids carry their own is up to you.\nParents attending will be asked to participate in all activities with the exception of answering questions intended for the students!\nStudents are discouraged from bringing cell phones or cameras with them on the trail.  Parents may have a cell phone/camera\, but they would like parents to set a good example in not using them on the trip.  I think it is fine for the parents to take some pictures or use a cell phone if necessary\, but please make sure it is not a distraction.\n Participants should wear long pants\, closed toed sturdy shoes\, a hat and sunscreen.

SUMMARY:Calvary Center Stage Production of Peter & the Wolf
DESCRIPTION:What: A special school field trip production of Peter & The Wolf.  Last year we attended their production of Frozen Jr. and it was a very memorable event! \nCalvary Center Stage is cordially inviting your school to attend a production of Peter & the Wolf and other concert pieces in collaboration with Los Robles Children’s Choir and the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra. This is a free event\, but a reservation is necessary to secure seats.  I have reserved 30 seats for ACHEV.  There is only one date for the show on Friday\, March 31 @ 10:00 am. The show will run approximately 45 minutes\, and students will have an opportunity to play some of the instruments in the lobby after the concert. \nAlthough the performance is only 45 minutes\, students will have a chance to try some of the instruments in the lobby after the concert. This will be made available until 11:15 am. \nThis is an Open Seating Event. Doors open a half hour before the performance.  I would like to meet up in front a little early (before doors open at 9:30) so we can try to sit together as a group.  Last year\, they did organize us by group and have special assigned seating by group.  As the event gets closer\, I will confirm with them what the seating arrangements will be and let everyone know what to do and where to meet. \nSign Up Here.   Sign up deadline is March 24\, 2023.  Please include all students and parents attending on the sign up sheet.

SUMMARY:Colonial Farm Life Field Trip at Riley's Farm
DESCRIPTION:Woo hoo!  I scheduled a field trip to the amazing Riley’s Farm!  If you haven’t heard of Riley’s Farm\, it is owned and run by a Christian family who are passionate about history and freedom.    If you want to know more about Riley’s Farm you van visit their website https://rileysfarm.com/ . \nWhat: Colonial Farm Life Field Trip: this is an amazing living history program.  This autumn field trip represents an exploration of American\ncolonial life emphasizing the cultural and domestic pursuits of hearth cooking\, children’s period games\, cider pressing\, weaving\, etiquette\, quill calligraphy and more. Read all the fun details here: \nWho: All ACHEV members are welcome.  Riley’s Farm is very family and homeschool friendly.  This field trip will be fun for all ages\, but is aimed at pre-k to 4th grade.  It is better suited to younger kids than the Revolutionary War Field Trip we went on last year.  This is a fun field trip to bring Grandma and Grandpa along for\, especially if they are into history and watching your kids do homeschooley stuff =) \nTime: The field trip runs from 10am-12pm. You must arrive at least 15 minutes early\, by 9:45am.  It is a long drive so give yourself plenty of time to arrive and account for traffic.  You will want to have time to visit the restroom before we start and maybe place a pie or lunch order for later.  I am going to need some time to check everyone in and make sure everyone has their stickers showing what group they belong to.  The drive is admittedly very long (but very much worth it)\, so please leave early enough to allow time for traffic or other unforeseen delays. \nHow Much: $17 per person\, including adults\, paid in advance.  If we get 30+ people\, the price goes down to $15 per person. \nBabies/toddlers 2 years old and younger are free.  If they are 3 and over\, they need a ticket.  This is a significant discount per person for registering as a group of 15+.  I need at least 15 people paid by 9/23/22 to make this happen.  I have to sign a contract and personally guarantee payment as well as make a deposit\, so I have to collect payment in advance from everyone by September 23rd.   They will only adjust 10% of the total price for no-shows/cancellations after that date\, which depending on our numbers\, will mean that I can only afford to refund maybe 2 tickets if there are no-shows or last minute cancellations. SUMMARY:Poverty Encounter Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:What: A group visit to Poverty Encounter. \n“An immersive\, interactive experience\, Poverty Encounter provides a unique understanding of the impact of living in poverty\, and opportunities to make a difference.” \n\nEncountering Poverty\n\n\n\n\nby Lynn Phillips\, Poverty Encounter at Children’s Hunger Fund \nHave you ever heard your children say\, “I’m starving\,” “there’s nothing to eat\,” or “I don’t like this meal!”? Do you wish your children had a greater appreciation for what they have? As a homeschool mother of four\, it pained me to hear my boys’ lack of gratitude for all the Lord had given them. One of the reasons we homeschooled was to teach our kids about who God is and that they can play a part in His plans. My husband and I wondered how we could open our children’s eyes to the abundance they had before them. \nRead the rest of this article at http://www.homeschool411.com/family/encountering-poverty/ \nWhen: Friday\, December 3rd\, 9:30-11:30 am:  Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your reservation time and check in at the Poverty Encounter entrance of the building.  Each tour is 90 minutes with a 30-minute service activity during which guests will be able to pack food for families in need.  There is a considerable amount of walking and standing throughout the experience so please dress comfortably. \nInformation from Poverty Encounter:  All guests (age 2 and older) are required to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. \nCost: $7 per person ages 6 and up.  5 and under\, free.  Paid in advance.  Sales for this event will close two weeks before the event on November 22nd at Noon . This is what they ask so that they can work out scheduling in preparation for our event.   They have created a special link just for our group\, to purchase tickets online. \nTo sign up for this field trip: \,Visit this link  and purchase your tickets now.  Then\, please enter your information on this Google Sheet.  Your rsvp for this field trip is not secured until you have purchased your tickets via the link above. \n

SUMMARY:Field Trip: Riley's Farm Living History Revolutionary War Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Woo hoo!  I scheduled a field trip to the amazing Riley’s Farm!  If you haven’t heard of Riley’s Farm\, it is owned and run by a Christian family who are passionate about history and freedom.    If you want to know more about Riley’s Farm you van visit their website https://rileysfarm.com/ . \nWhat: Revolutionary War Adventure Field Trip: this is an amazing living history program.  Read all the fun details here: https://rileysfarm.com/index.php/living-history/revolutionarywar/ \nWho: All ACHEV members are welcome.  Riley’s Farm is very family and homeschool friendly.  This field trip will be fun for all ages.  This is a fun field trip to bring Grandma and Grandpa or Auntie along for\, especially if they are into history and watching your kids do homeschooley stuff =) \nTime: The field trip runs from 10am-2pm. You must arrive at least 15 minutes early\, by 9:45am.  It is a long drive so give yourself plenty of time to arrive and account for traffic.  You will want to have time to visit the restroom before we start and maybe place a pie order for later.  I am going to need some time to check everyone in and make sure everyone has their stickers showing what group they belong to.  The drive is admittedly very long (but very much worth it)\, so please leave early enough to allow time for traffic or other unforeseen delays. \nHow Much: $20 per person\, including adults.  Babies/toddlers 2 years old and younger are free.  If they are 3 and over\, they need a ticket.  This is a significant discount per person for registering as a group of 30+.  I need at least 30 people paid by 10/28/21 to make this happen.  I have to sign a contract and personally guarantee payment as well as make a deposit\, so I have to collect payment in advance from everyone by October 28th.  They will only adjust 10% of the total price for no-shows/cancellations after that date\, which depending on our numbers\, will mean that I can only afford to refund maybe 3 tickets if there are no-shows or last minute cancellations. You can send a check to Bonnie Adair at 174 Granada Street\, Camarillo\, CA 93010\, meet up with me in person and give me cash or check\, send me $ via Zelle \, or Paypal me at https://paypal.me/bonniemaeadair?locale.x=en_US \nWhere: 12261 S. Oak Glen Rd.\, Oak Glen\, CA 92399 ***GPS Databases are often wrong for the farm\, please use their directions https://rileysfarm.com/index.php/map/ \nLunch: There is a “soldier’s ration of lemonade\, cornbread\, cheese\, an apple and dried beef provided for everyone\, but the ration is modest (especially if you have a teenage boy)\, so you will probably want to either pack some extra food\, or you can buy food from the bakery.  Their food and pies are really good\, by the way\, and I highly recommend them =)  I always buy an extra whole apple pie and whole chicken pot pie to take home for the next day.  Such a treat!  Also\, they recommend you order ahead of time (you can order online or on-site in the morning when we arrive. Here is the most current menu and should be a close idea of what will be available https://rileysfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/cc_menu_2wide_web.jpg \nMisc: This field trip is outdoors.  Please check the weather ahead of time\, wear layers\, bring hats and sunscreen\, extra water and snacks\, and be prepared for a long day. \nSign Up: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tt_HyUm7isW5EyApEPycJUd5v9QiW8M0DDIcV_6n3og/edit#gid=0 \nPlease email me if you have any questions\, or need help signing up. \nThanks\, \nBonnie Adair \n805-504-6457 \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:**Cancelled**Field Trip - Guide Dogs of America
DESCRIPTION:**Update 3/12/20**I am sorry\, but GDA has cancelled all tours due to the Coronavirus scare.  We will try to reschedule for June. \nWhat: Tour of Guide Dogs of America Facility.   \n\nIn this field trip\, students will have the opportunity to learn how guide dogs are trained\, how they could become a trainer or get involved in other ways to help with the GDA mission\, learn more about the challenges blind people face\, and how to act if they encounter a Guide Dog.\nIf a class is not in session\, the group will be visiting the dormitory area where the\nstudents stay for 21 days while training with their guide dogs. The children should\nconduct themselves in a mannerly way\, asking questions one at a time.\nYou will have a kennel visit where you will have an opportunity to see and interact\, in a\nlimited fashion with a group of dogs. Children need to be well behaved and avoid\nmaking the dogs nutty!\nGuide Dogs of America (GDA) has been offering guide dog mobility services\, free of charge\, to qualified blind and visually impaired individuals\, since 1948. GDA breeds\, raises and trains Labrador Retrievers\, Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds to be partnered with blind men and women living in the United States and Canada.\n\nWho: Students ages 9 and up only and parents.  Younger siblings will not be permitted to attend the field trip.  We need a minimum of 15 students in attendance or we will have to cancel this field trip. \nCost: Free \nWhat You Need To Know: \n\nRules of Conduct2 – Copy\nThe more the kids know about the whole process prior to our arrival the more they will get out of the presentation (i.e. what is a guide dog? How do they help?).  Please go over these materials with your students: Q&A\, Student Worksheet/Questions for Review\, GDA Answer Sheet 4-8\, HandDrawnDog\, CLASSROOM EXERCISES\, Overview&MeetingaGDAteam\, GDA booklist-non-fic 4-8\nHave the children formulate questions that they might like to ask.\nThere is no charge for our visit or tour of course\, and you are under no obligation to do anything.  However\, the children are never too young to realize that this is primarily a volunteer effort and we find that they are much more enthusiastic about the program if they feel they are doing their part.  Take a peek at the how children can help document and see if you might be interested in “partnering” with Guide Dogs of America.  Also\, you can view Giving Opportunities.\n Each child can contribute a dog toy that we use for our puppies that are in the kennel or add to  gift baskets for our Open House Silent Auction and it can be the “gift that keeps on giving” since people pay good money for our lovely baskets and it all goes to support GDA.\nno food products for the pups\, not even homemade dog cookies – we have our puppies on a very specific diet and don’t want any upset tummies.\nVisitors are not allowed to have lunch on the school grounds. GDA can provide\ndirections to a nearby public park\, which would be suitable for a picnic after your tour.\nSign Up Using the Google Sheet below\n\n

SUMMARY:Blueberry Picking Field Trip One Acre Farm
DESCRIPTION:What: One Acre Farm is only open to the public on Saturdays\, and we have arranged a special field trip so that we can pick together on Friday March 20th.  One Acre Farm is just outside of Camarillo in the Santa Rosa Valley.    Co-Owner Scott Bahler is excited to share with our kids his knowledge of healthy eating habits\, organic farming\, varieties of blueberries\, how to start farming\, and the rewards and challenges they face being small farmers.  He will also answer questions anyone has.  Here is an article the VC Star did on them last year.  You can learn a little about them by reading: https://www.vcstar.com/story/life/2019/03/07/one-acre-farm-camarillo-organic-blueberries/3070997002/ \nMost likely there will also be organic strawberries available for picking\, though I don’t know the price for those yet. \n \n \n  \nWho: Everyone.  This field trip is family friendly. \nCost: Field Trip is free\, and you are welcome to pick blueberries for $3.50 per 6 oz container. \nDetails: \n\nWear closed toe shoes.\nDo not bring dogs.\nI do not recommend bringing a stroller.  We will be given golf cart rides (the kids’ favorite part) up to the acre.  Toddlers can walk around and pick berries (or play with sticks and dirt)\, and it would be a good idea to have a carrier if you are bringing a baby.\nDress in layers\, wear sunscreen & hats\, bring water.\nThere are nice bathrooms below the parking lot\, but there are no bathrooms near the acre where we are picking.\nStay and pick as long as you like\, and leave when you are ready\n\nSign Up using the link below.
