Please read over this section with your student so they understand the judging criteria and rules.

Sandcastle competition rules:

1. Building time will start at 10AM and end at 11:15AM. If you are early you may set up your equipment but may not begin any work. If you are late, you can still get to work but will not get any extra time.
2. Sand & water only: The structure must be built using only sand and water. No additives. Sticks and rocks may not be used internally to hold structure up.
3. Natural decorations ONLY: You may decorate with items naturally found on a beach. You may scavenger ahead of time and bring beach items into competition. So, get out there and start collecting 🙂  (No glitter, paint, toys, glass, trash etc.)
4. Tools: Molds and forms OK. buckets, bowls, shovels, hand tools, measuring spoons etc. please remove molds and forms before judging begins.
5. You may not vote for your own castle.
6. Deep holes dug for water or sand must be completely filled in before leaving the beach.

How Judging will work:

Every person present will be given three different colored popsicle sticks. When time runs out you will hand the popsicle stick to your favorite castles based on creativity, difficulty, and most detailed.

Red = creativity
Is it unique? Is there a theme?
Blue = difficulty
Was this really hard to build? Is it super tall?
Green = most detailed
Are there windows, bridges, a lot of decoration?

The group with the most amount of one color will win that category.
