Homeschool Haven
September 17, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Friday, repeating until May 27, 2022
Homeschool Haven is a space reserved at Encounter Church for ACHEV small groups, special guests, and interesting projects, just as last year. We will continue to abide by whatever the public health department requires of the church. We have been granted Sep2021-May2022. This is facilitated by Susan Pineda, but she will not be leading every meeting. Watch for notices throughout the year for what’s happening at Homeschool Haven.
We have mornings from about 10am – noon. Some groups may choose to use only an hour, so there may be a couple of fun things happening any given day. Please read the information for each meeting before you commit. If your plans change, please update your RSVP accordingly so others may participate. Thank you.
Tentative plans – subject to change!
Beginning September 17, Susan Pineda will teach beginning and intermediate knitting and crochet using small autumn theme projects.
October 29, 2021 – The Christian Fellowship Brass Quartet will give a mini-concert and teach us about their instruments. This was a great hit last year. We are excited to have them back! For this date only, we get to meet in the PLEX auditorium!
November/December – Let’s make folded fabric Christmas ornaments!
January/February: How about we learn to quilt with small projects? As we approach Valentine’s Day, we can make quilted heart prayer pockets. Using this project, we can learn a quilt-as-you-go technique with strips of fabric, efficient ways to do patchwork, and how to use a rotary cutter. February, we have set aside as a history day! Let’s learn about the underground railroad, how quilts were part of this history, and begin working on the historic underground railroad quilt block. This block is a good size for a hot pad. With this project, we can learn most of the skills needed to make a full size quilt!
March/April/May – Share your ideas with me! Perhaps macramé?
Yes! We’re aiming to make macramé keychains March 11, led by ACHEV student Gianna Calisin. We can do a small group of up to 4 students. This is best suited for age ten and older, but motivated and dexterous younger students are welcome at the discretion of the parents. Parents stay to help.
Great news! 4/22/2022 Monica Spooner is going to demonstrate spinning! She will demonstrate and teach drop spindle and spinning wheel. This is hands-on learn about history, fiber, and creating yarn. Please RSVP so we can be prepared with enough supplies. Thank you.
Last meeting is May 27. We will make patriotic pinwheels, have a party, and circulate a Thank You card for the church. This will be an opportunity to include a donation to the church to help thank them for letting us use this space all year!
