Harvest Dance
November 2, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Let’s dance with joy and thanksgiving this autumn at ACHEV’s country/harvest theme contra and square dance with a professional caller! No experience necessary as dances are taught and called.
Who: Private homeschooled students in ACHEV, CASA, Trinity, and Santa Barbara Christian Homesteaders, 6th grade and up and parents. You may invite guests, but guest need to be cleared in advance with with Patty Silver.
These dances are one of the few times we cannot include the whole family as there are no accommodations for children 5th grade and younger. Please make arrangements to leave younger children at home. Babes in arms OK.
Where: Calvary Nexus, located at 380 Mobil Avenue in Camarillo
Chaperones: A parent chaperone is required for students under 18. As with all ACHEV functions, parents are responsible for their children’s behavior and safety for the duration of the event. If you cannot chaperone your own child, please make arrangements in advance with another parent. Thank you.
Cost: $10 per student, $30 family limit, parent chaperones free. Pay at the door with either cash or check payable to ACHEV.
Attire: The Harvest Contra/Square Dance is casual. Boys may wear T-shirts and jeans. Girls may wear pants, including blue jeans. For girls who wish to wear a dress or skirt, the minimum hemline is touching the top of the knee. Please note if dresses have sheer layers, it is the solid fabric that must be at least to the top of the knee. Harvest/country attire admired, but not required! We highly recommend comfortable shoes.
Boys
– T-shirts OK for this dance
– Jeans OK for this dance, no holes
Girls
– Pants/jeans OK for this dance, no holes
– Skirts or dresses must be knee length or longer. (This means touching the top of the knee, regardless of leggings.) If there is a lace overlay, the skirt underneath (solid fabric) needs to touch the knee.

Basic Dance Etiquette
Thank you for sharing this with your children.
For boys:
Ask a variety of girls to dance. They are waiting for you to ask.
You may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked.
Offer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor.
When the dance is over, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance.
For girls:
If a boy asks you to dance, graciously accept his offer.
If you stand with your friends in a closed circle, it is hard for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by op ening up your circle.
For both:
Every dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations.
Not everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime.
A Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance.
