Back to School Dance

September 28, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This is our first big dance of the school year! Live music provided by The Ramblers. There will be a variety of swing and ballroom dance music, and possibly even some contra and/or square dancing! No experience necessary.

Who: Private homeschooled students in ACHEV, CASA, Trinity and Santa Barbara Christian Homesteaders, 6th grade and up and parents. You may invite guests, but guests need to be cleared with Karen Partridge (karenpa1011@yahoo.com).
These dances are one of the few times we cannot include the whole family as there are no accommodations for children 5th grade and younger. Please make arrangements to leave younger children at home. Babes in arms OK.
Chaperones: A parent chaperone is required for students under 18. As with all ACHEV functions, parents are responsible for their children’s behavior and safety for the duration of the event. If you cannot chaperone your own child, please make arrangements with another parent.
Cost: $10 per student, $30 family limit, parent chaperones free. Pay at the door with either cash or check payable to ACHEV.
Dress Code: ACHEV dress code applies. Guidelines are enforced.
Bring: A finger food snack to share
Guests: You may invite guests, but guests need to be cleared in advance with Karen Partridge (karenpa1011@yahoo.com). It is your responsibility to inform your guests about the dance, including rules, dance etiquette, and the dress code.
Contact: Karen Partridge (karenpa1011@yahoo.com).
Help needed: ACHEV families, if you can help, please sign up to volunteer.

Basic Dance Etiquette
Thank you for sharing this with your children.

For boys:
Ask a variety of girls to dance. They are waiting for you to ask.
You may be nervous asking a girl to dance. That is ok. She is probably nervous waiting to be asked.
Offer her your hand or your arm and escort her onto the dance floor.
When the dance is over, escort her off the floor and thank her for the dance.

For girls:
If a boy asks you to dance, graciously accept his offer.
If you stand with your friends in a closed circle, it is hard for a boy to ask you to dance. Make yourself available by opening up your circle.

For both:
Every dance has first time attendees. Make an effort to reach out to them and include them in your conversations.
Not everyone knows how to dance…that is ok. Everyone has to begin sometime.
A Sadie Hawkins dance is when a girl can ask a boy to dance.
