**Cancelled**Wilderness Skills Outdoor Adventure
April 18 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
**Sorry, this event has been cancelled due to low enrollment**
Hello Everyone. There’s a lot of information here, so please read it all. (Also since there is a lot of info here, please let me know if it looks like I might have made a mistake somewhere). The information at the beginning is general information for all of the outings, and towards the bottom I will add more specific details for each outing as the information becomes available. The specifics of each outing can’t be known too far in advance because things depend on weather and what nature is providing at the time (water availability, natural plant availability which depends on rainfall, etc). These outings are being led by “Tracker Rob”, and tracking animals is his specialty, but he has many survival skills and a love for nature that he enjoys sharing. There are many exciting skills to learn, and we will start on Feb 15 with a survival skills basics outing, which will be followed by going more in depth into skills such as animal tracking, shelter making, and edible and medicinal plants. You will get all the specifics via email after you register, so please make sure to include your email address when you sign up. Please contact me (Bonnie) with questions first. I will be the main point of contact for the outings.

Date: APRIL 18, 2024 (Thursday)
Site: TAPIA PARK Public Use Area
Time: 9:30am – 4:00pm
Topic: WILD EDIBLE FOOD
Outing Fee: $60.00 per student. No charge for parent chaperones.
Outing Description
On this Wild Edible Foods outing, students will forage for wild edibles then process and eat(!) what is found at the location. One of the primary meals focuses on the processing and cooking of Acorns to make acorn cakes and mush (and may be eaten with pre-made wild Elder-berry jam!) but we’ll also harvest some wild green to make stir fry, and perhaps supplemented with chia and pine nuts And, for our drink, we’ll make a wild rose-hip or chamomile tea. Time permitting, there’s an option for Nettle greens (soup or tea) or other available wild foods of the season.
The fire to cook our meals will be, of course, made without matches (some of the students have already learned this skill so they will be put to task!).
Students should be prepared to do some work in gathering and preparing to make these meals happen. The reward is a wonderful wild food meal and the experience of reconnection to the old ways.
Please, All attendees, both children and adults, must submit completed both the Liability Waiver Form and Medical Information Form before or at the outing start. (see attached and also at the end of this email). Thank you.
**NOTE: IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED THE FORMS FOR THE NEEW SEASON (February – June 2024), NO NEED TO COMPLETE THEM AGAIN.
Parents and Chaperones welcome to attend at no charge.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding outing: the activities, teaching topics /content, or simply desire more information, please contact me by phone or e-mail.
